    • Hello Michèle.

Thank You. Before moving here, we lived in an area where beautiful pines where everywhere surrounding our home. They were beautiful, but to watch them 19 years did not give any new content to life. In summer the possibilities for outdoor activities were huge. Also in summer, it was so nice to collect mushrooms and blueberries in the nearby woods. We ate blueberries all the winter. Those were the days which stay in our minds. Anja had also small flower garden which she loved to take care of. Someday I’ll present more flowers she had there in addition I have shown (Azaleas, Roses and Rhododendrons) already. In winter there were only to select the road to the right or to the left for our daily walking. Now we have huge amount of possibilities for our outdoor life. In winter walking on frozen lake is something which everyone should have an experience.

      Have a nice day!

In fact, it looks almost exactly like the lake I run around (except there’s no good looking shirtless guy in a boat paddling across, lol). Is it spring over there right now? You also have long summer twilight days, right? Cheers and can’t wait to see more.

I’d like to have a house for the summer holidays in such wonderful lakeside.

    Comment by kanaconnie — May 1, 2015 @ 16:13 | Reply

    • Hello Connie.

Thank you for Your kind comment and having so cool idea. Well, in Finland it is easy. There are two choices: to rent or to buy. On the area where I live there are few owners who live outside Finland and who come here to spend their holidays. In our apartment building there are two owners live outside Finland.

These apartments well equipped. Couple of examples: Each apartment has own Sauna and large balcony with glazed windows. Balconies are facing towards the lake and their size varies from 5 to 20 square meters in Finland. My home town is not the only one to have apartments by the lakes, there are many, like Lahti, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lappeenranta, Joensuu, Savonlinna.

Another way to get house by the lake is to rent a summer cottage by the lake. The renting possibilities are huge in Finland. Every summer cottages has their own pier, Sauna, beach and rowing boat.

In Finland people love lakes or sea. To have a summer house by the lake or by the sea are nearly equally popular. Some of our people love motor homes. The newest trend in Finland is to have a second home which is in another town and it can be obtained at the same price than hi priced motor homes. Comparing summer cottage with apartment, the apartment home is easy to maintain without any problems. On the contrary summer cottage need annual caring. So renting a summer cottage is excellent solution. I give here some links to feed Your imagination.

      Hired vacation cottage.

      Vacation cottages in Muonio

      Midsummer cruise.

      Cruise to Rock paintings.

      These were few examples.

Here is one organization which arranges:

Renting holiday cottages, villas and apartments.

Flight time between Tokyo and Helsinki is 10 hours 20 minutes and return flight 9 hours 35 minutes. JAL flies from Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Also our national airline Finnair has same cities than JAL.

From Helsinki there are excellent air, train and bus connections to everywhere. If renting a summer cottage, You need to hire a car, but it is no problems.

tonight I dream “summer holidays at lake side in Finland”

        Comment by kanaconnie — May 2, 2015 @ 17:16 | Reply

        • Hi Connie.

          Sometimes dreams come true.

I am glad that You loved my information. If You really will visit Finland, then remember that my country is in the North which means in summer sometime there is cool weather. Some summers are warm / hot. If some days are cold, then Sauna warms. 🙂 It is wonderful to go to Sauna after swimming in a lake. Finns take their vacations generally in June, July and up to mid-August. May is not the best month, because after winter water is not yet warm. On the contrary August is wonderful month. Many times weather is warm and sunny. A tiny problem is that Finland “closes” itself then, because the majority of Finns start their work in mid-august and thus some camping sites close themselves “too early”. Tourists from Central and South Europe visit Finland from August to mid-September.

My family loves August. High season is from mid-summer to the end of the first week of August, which means higher prices.

Anyway if You have questions or problems, then send me email and I try to help You as good as I can. Welcome!

  31. Very beautiful pictures, indeed! You are so lucky to live near this beautiful lake. Whenever I am near a lake or even a marina, I get such a feeling of peace and tranquility. Enjoy! I especially liked the pictures with the swans and with the boats, and really liked the last picture.
