In English:
White bridges of Hupisaaret.
Hupisaaret, freely translated means “Fun Islands”, is a recreation area in the center of Oulu, consisting of many islands, which connect to each other by white bridges. Between these islands, there are small brooks and waterways. The place is ideal for walking and biking or just enjoy life.
Hupisaaret offer for kids a playground and for adults open-air summer theater, Northern Ostrobothnia Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, city gardens, greenhouses, arboretum and Finland’s longest fishway.
Because there is a hydroelectric power-plant of Merikoski next to Hupisaaret, fishway is important for fishes, which come from the sea and continue their journey swimming upstream in the river Oulujoki.
To fast reach Hupisaaret from Helsinki? By air 1 hour, by rail about 6 hours, by bus 8 hours and by car 7 hours.
In my post, I show mainly white bridges of Hupisaaret, some flowers, fishway and water jets of Merikoski. Welcome to walk with us thru my photos.

Hello Little Miss Traveller.
We love Oulu. It is in the midway of Finland and this makes that we can drive in one day up to the northernmost places. Oulu has beautiful Arctic beach, which is beautiful even in winter. Winter biking is very popular in Oulu. Thank You commenting.
P.S. If You will visit the Arctice Circle and travelling by train to Rovaniemi, the wave to me quite soon the train leaves Oulu, there is our second home. .)

Very enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere! It’s the right mixture of green and water and in combination with the excellent looking white bridges, the fountains in the water as well as the colourful flowers which makes the Hupisaaret Park a place to go and surely to stay! I really would love to see the greenhouses as well as the arboretum, too during such a stay.
I’m fascinated by the fishway that you showed on your photos! Great thing to help the salmons to get to “their” river Oulojoki! Here in Hamburg we just got a new (additional) fishway for eels, sticklebacks and sea trouts to secure a passage from the river Elbe to the Alster. It’s only a small one with a total length of 42 meters.
Matti, I read that you are planning to go to Oulu now for the coming six weeks. Enjoy your stay and hopefully they are right as far as the long-term weather forecast is concerned! – Michèle
