In English:
What to see on the Nile Cruise?
General information.
In 2011, we spent one-week vacation on the Nile cruise in Egypt. We bought all-inclusive package tour, including flights between Helsinki and Hurghada, transfers between Aswan and Hurghada, all visits on ancient temples, nights on a cruise boat with food and drinks.
How it was! Awesome. All the temples leave on visitors an unforgettable impression. There is much to see and to shoot photos. I shot 1926 photos of which I’ll present 361 in eight posts! We visited to these temples: Karnak, Luxor, Kom Ombo, Philae, Hatsesup, Colossi of Memnon.
The cruise is like making a time travel, travelling back in history for thousands of years. The scenery changes slowly and life along the banks of the Nile seems to be slow life, no hurry. From time to time we encountered other cruise ships, onshore we saw bovines, camels, fishermen, shacks, debris, palm trees, distant mountains, and as the evening progresses, spectacular sunsets.
The slow life continues on a cruise boat, eating, drinking ,sun bathing, admiring sceneries, resting and swimming in a pool. Everyday worries and care are behind and it’s time to enjoy life. The mind is filled with the excitement of waiting to see all those old temples.

Cruise photos on the Nile 1.
As I told already in introduction, life on the shores of Nile is slow, without any hurry and now you see it thru my photos. Donkeys, men repairing things, fishing, other cruise boats, row boats, a Lady fetching water from the Nile for washing clothes, transporting hay on boats, distant mountains, men’s discussions while resting, palms, cattle raising, transport of palm leaves on a donkey carriage, a boy drinking water directly from the Nile, sellers of goods, who sold rugs and clothes directly from their boat, which were tied to the cruise ship and sun sets on the Nile. That’s what we saw from our cruise ship.

This journey in the land of the pharaohs must have been a dream come true for you. I am looking forward to the next instalment, Sartenada. Happy New Year!
Comment by Peter Klopp — January 2, 2020 @ 17:33 |
Hello Peter.
Yes, indeed fulfilling a dream. I read the historical novel (1945) of Mika Waltari who described how the life was in era of Pharaoh Akhenaten of the 18th Dynasty. He described the life of Sinuhe, which was actually quite similar we saw on the river banks of Nile 2011. Wikipedia says: “The novel is known for its high-level historical accuracy of the life and culture of the period depicted”. So, one novel inspired us to make this cruise!
Thank you for your comment.
Happy 2020!

Hello Matti, first of all I would like to wish You and Anja a very happy and healthy New Year! Sorry for being rather late in reading and replying, but it wasn’t easy to find time. But now … What an interesting blog series and how wonderful to see all you showed from Karnak, Luxor and other places close to the Nile! I am greatly impressed by the temple pillars and further architectural details.
I noticed that Your photos taken during the boat trip on the river Nile are confirming very well what you tell about the fact that life on the shores of the river is slow. No matter if one is watching the photos of the small boats, of the fishermen and travellng vendors or the herdsmen with their cows, goats or sheep.
Matti, thanks for showing your souvenirs of Egypt. I enjoyed your blog posts very very much. You did see quite a lot in only one week!
Best wishes and have a pleasant second half of the week.

Merci
