There was some nostalgic in the air when we left Arctic Circle in the morning. This post ends our road trip and I am sure that You have got some new info about Lapland and a small idea how it is looking like thru my 565 photos. Before arriving home we visited the Rapids of Kukkolankoski which is the part of Torne river having the length of 510 km / 324 mi. Kukkolankoski is is the longest freely flowing rapids in Finland and in Northern Europe. Its length is 3 500 meters / 3828 yards and fall height is 13.8 meters / 45.2 feet.
Kukkolankoski runs between Finland and Sweden. This means when looking at my photos that You are seeing Sweden on the opposite side of rapids There were some fishermen using hoop net with long arm. The best time to visit Kukkolankoski is spring time when it foams full of water coming from the North. Now it was autumn, but You can imagine very well how it is in the Spring. The way back to our home passed safely and lasted 9.5 hours with two stops.
Some statistics: Total number of photos 1423 photos of which 565 presented in thirteen posts. Anja shot videos and after photos You can make the whole road trip thru her video in nine minutes and four seconds. To see it at best way, click first settings, select 1080p ( on the bottom right side, third to the left) and after then click full screen. I am “acting” in it in few scenes meaning that now You have possibility to meet me seventy years old gentleman “in person”.
Total coasts 874 Euros including food, drinks, fuel and accommodations. The length of road tour was 2619km / 1627mi. The amount of real hiking only about 50km / 31mi. The last photo shows our car costs in Excel worksheet format. In it I calculated fuel consumptions from full tank to full tank starting from the mileage reading 4743, ending to 7533. This means covering the range 2790km / 1734mi. I started to make this kind of reports already in 1973 when driving my first car. First I used notebook and later I transferred since 1995 all the figures to Excel worksheets. My home version includes costs also. Enjoy my report.

Antes de llegar a casa visitamos el Rapids de Kukkolankoski que es la parte de Torne Riveri que tiene la longitud de 510 km / 324 mi. Kukkolankoski es es el más largo de los rápidos que fluyen libremente en Finlandia y en el norte de Europa. Su longitud es de 3 500 metros / 3.828 yardas y caída de altura es de 13,8 metros / 45,2 pies.
Kukkolankoski afluir entre Finlandia y Suecia. Esto significa que cuando se mira en mis fotos que usted está viendo a Suecia en el lado opuesto de rápidos. Hubo algunos pescadores que utilizan la red aro con brazo largo. La mejor época para visitar Kukkolankoski es la primavera cuando espuma lleno de agua que viene del Norte. Avant d’arriver à la maison , nous faisions une visité au Rapids de Kukkolankoski qui est la partie de Torne riveri ayant la longueur de 510 km / 324 mi.
Kukkolankoski est la plus longue rapides librement fluides en Finlande et en Europe du Nord. Le longueur est 3 500 mètres / 3828 yards et hauteur de chute est de 13,8 mètres / 45,2 pieds. Kukkolankoski coule entre la Finlande et la Suède. Thank You visiting my post and loving my photos. Northern Europe offers something different to explore after Rome, Venice, Paris Monaco, Lisbon, London etc. Many Japanese love Moomins and man can meet them in Finland in old idyllic Naantali with its wooden houses.

Glad to see your wife is enjoying being a videographer. Like the fisherman scenes and the dock looks scary! The quaintness of the brightly -coloured buildings, the rapids and seeing across the rvier to another country make an interesting series.

Thank You commenting and making question. In this river there are: pikes, perches, salmons and graylings. The small house is restaurant and café. Signs say that there is offered today fried lampreys and beef jerky for sale.

I enjoyed the novelty of seeing Finland and Sweden in the same photos, Sartenada. It reminded me of my recent rafting trip in the Dunajec Gorge, when I had Poland on one shoreline and Slovakia on the other. 🙂

Yes indeed, it is the border. Finland shares border with Sweden and Norway in the North. There are fishes like: pikes, perches, salmons and graylings. This rapids is part of the Torne river which length is 510 kilometers. The red color is typical color of old wooden houses in Finland They can be found on countryside even near to Helsinki. Thank You commenting my post and the video. I was sure that photos and video complete each others. Before leaving for retirement in my company, I kept for my company quality reports by making different statistics and analysis. I enjoyed it and it was direct continuation for it what I have made during twenty years in home. Although my wife was professional bookkeeper, I made home bookkeeping program using Excel. With it we can track our income, expenses, budget, daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis etc.
Statistics for our cars I started already in 1973 by using notebook. This statistics in this post was a shorter version of it what I use home. Of course I keep other kind of statistics also.

I found your blog because you commented on my daughter’s blog about quilting and I wanted to see where you lived. I once had a Swedish friend and she would have recognized the language and interpreted for me, but she is long gone. I live in San Diego so I thoroughly enjoyed your video and pictures of the Lapland visit. I’ve always been fascinated with the far north. I didn’t know caribou came in white! Do they change color for the winter? Or is that just how they vary?
You do have some wonderful quilts. I don’t quilt, but do sew clothing as well as crafty things and appreciate the talent.
Thanks for the visit… I will have to come back and visit again!
