These photos I took in January and February 2010. I drove my car around nearby village roads, makings stops and photographing. Weather was bitterly cold in both moths and I had to be careful with my camera that it was freezing.

Matti, I can *feel* the cold in these photos… some of the trees looking like they are struggling under the weight of the snow, the swings and playground things inundated in it, the horses with their horse covers to help them keep warm, than type of clothing that man is wearing (is he going ice fishing?) and most of all the beautiful blueness of the shadows of the snow.
Once again I will say that it’s wonderful to have the technology to watch this beauty via my computer screen and not have to go out and get as cold as you did 🙂
Thank you for suffering the cold to give me some amazing photos to look at!

Good morning Kiwidutch.
You are right when saying that trees have hard times. That older man is going to ice fishing or jigging. To jig is popular way to fish in winter in countryside. He has good combination backpack, which works as a backpack and a seat. On sunny winter day it is great time to fish on icy lake and to enjoy one’s surroundings. I have done only once jigging. Well, it depends of course where one is living. Always lakes are not in one’s near vicinity although we have 55 821 lakes.
When morning sunshine is shining snow color can vary from blue to reddish.
Thank You for Your visit and leaving nice comment.
Happy Friday!

Matti,
leaving nice comments on your blog is easy since you take so many excellent photos. Yes I feel sorry for those poor trees, The Spring thaw can’t come soon enough for them after any winter I suspect. Reddish tones to snow shadows? wow if you can capture that I’d love to see it and see something new!

Good Morning Matti, We have had a little snow this week, but hopefully winter is over. I like the way you told the story of the fisherman in photos, with him preparing and then setting off through the deep snow. The photos of the trees and grasses are amazing. Has the snow gone yet in Finland, or have you another month of winter to get through yet?

Hello Jackie.
We have been waiting spring as we say here “like rising sun” here. Here where I live, 50 kilometers / 31 miles from Helsinki to the North, we have snow about 50 centimeters / 19.6 inches snow. This year Spring is late. Normally we should have at this time of year from 5 ºC / 41 ºF up to 10 ºC / 50 ºF, at least occasionally.
Yesterday in Kuopio, which is 360 kilometers / 233 miles from our home, there was extremely bad, snowy and slippery weather which caused nearly 100 car crashes on a bridge. Well, I am not blaming the weather, but people are driving too close each others. That is the thing that I cannot understand.
Happy Weekend!

Thanks for braving the cold to get these beautiful pictures. They are all wonderful. I thought nothing could be prettier than the blue skies in the first few pictures, but then I came to the pictures of the sun on those snow-covered trees — gorgeous. Your winter scenes are marvelous, but I’m ready for Spring and warmer weather.

That is a wonderful selection of winter pictures! They are all beautiful and I especially loved 12, 14 and 29! I enjoyed so much seeing the snow on the beautiful countryside there.
Comment by montucky — March 25, 2011 @ 17:02 |
Hello Montucky.
Thank You. Your choice is great. That number 29 I took very near (5 kilometers / 3 miles) to my house. There is nearly at my back a football field / skating rink. Also very near there a place to wash carpets during summer.
Happy weekend!

Wow! Incredibly beautiful! What happened to the man who was going ice fishing? Follow him in the snow seem interesting.
Have a good day!

Many photos in this post were from the area where we lived before moving to Mikkeli. Thank You for Your kind comment. My newest post is delayed intentionally, because after next week I am offline and we travel for one week to Madeira. Tomorrow I’ll publish my last winter post presenting ice art in Mikkeli. 🙂
