Bonjour Matti,

Hi Roberta.
How glad I am that You liked my photos. My wife has made some quilts many years ago and that is why, why we still visit these quilt shows. When I see something beautiful, it is “vibrating” my soul!!!
Happy New Year 2012.
Comment by sartenada — December 30, 2011 @ 17:51 |
I am always amazed at the creativity and beuty of quilter’s creations-went to a show a couple of years ago and seen some shows as well as some of my friends are quilters-i think at this point it becomes art if the design is their own. how do you get the quilts square in your photos? I have trouble with this and get distortion.
Comment by janechese — December 30, 2011 @ 20:06 |
Hello Janechese.
Thank You. Quilters are creative. Although one is “trying to copy” a model, the final result is always individual view from it. Selecting fabrics and colors are important. I remember many times at those days when my wife made quilts (now she is beading), that I had possibility to give my opinion (being a judge of taste) when selecting colors and patterns. 🙂
How I did quilt’s squares in my photos: I do not know. I just took photos. I was not using flash, but ISO setting 400, that’s it.
Have a lovely day!

What I think? I think there are MANY beautiful quilts here – a wonderful and colorful way to celebrate New Year today! My favorites are these 3: No. 7 (simple and beautiful and nice color choice), No. 23 (I love these beautiful houses!) – and No. 36 (fantastic colors – and impressive and great composition).
Happy New year, Matti!

Such beautiful work! Thanks for sharing more of Finland’s incredible handcrafts. And Happy New Year! Janet
Comment by harpingjanet — January 6, 2012 @ 04:42 |
Hi Janet.
You are very kind. Thank You. It has been really my intention to present handcrafts made in my country. We are “specialized” to handle wood and that is why I have presented so many carved bears for example in my posts. More You will see when You start to follow our holiday trip made by our car last summer “Beyond the Arctic Circle”. I just published the first part of our “adventure”.
Have a lovely day and weekend!
Comment by Sartenada — January 6, 2012 @ 09:18 |

I so admire the creators of these ingenius works of art! Their time and devotion! Oh, my!
Thanks for again sharing your lovely photos, Matti!

Comment by Sartenada — January 13, 2012 @ 11:33 |
There are so many beautiful quilts here, and believe it or not I now think I can recognise your wife’s style of work. Amongst others, I think the bag in image 19 is hers, and it is very well made.
The ones I wish I could make (and never shall be able to) are images 2, 4 and 28.
The quilt that I think is image 24 (the door) fascinates me because I think it is actually a photograph, printed onto different coloured fabric and then quilted and embellished. That one I think I could do, and would enjoy combining the photography with the needlework.
No doubt you will see many more beautiful quilts and other needlecrafts this weekend. Your wife is very fortunate having a husband who is happy to travel to the quilt fairs with her!
Comment by Janice — March 22, 2012 @ 22:12 |
Hello Janice.
Number 19 is done with same style which my wife prefers, but in this case she did not make it. Your selections which did find among all of these, is great as Yòur taste choice.
Your kind words made me blush. There are many reasons why I travel with my wife to these fairs, but one is that because I love art and especially beautiful art. These are art, so I find them.
Happy week-end!
Comment by Sartenada — March 23, 2012 @ 08:23 |
Wonderful! I have made half a dozen or so, and love the process of choosing patterns and colors. I have the quilts my grandmother made me as well.
