Instead of looking at television all the winter, some people go to different courses. Until now I have been presenting Amateur paintings, Orhodox icons, Porcelain paintings, Glass paintings. There are more things in which people take interest in.

En vez de mirar la televisión todo el invierno, muchas personas van a los diferentes cursos. Hasta ahora he estado presentando Pinturas aficioinados, Iconos Ortodoxos, Pinturas de porcelana, Pinturas de vitraless. Hay más cosas en las que la gente tienen aficionados.

Au lieu de regarder la télévision tout l’hiver, beaucoup de personnes vont aux différents cours. Jusqu’à présent, j’ai présenté Peintures d’amateur, Iconos Ortodoxos, peintures de porcelaine, Paintures de vitraux. Il y a plus de choses dans lequel les gens pratiquent.

What awesome creations those are! I had to review the photos several times and examine every detail. They stand out brightly in contrast to so much in today’s world that are cheap and mass-produced. It’s very refreshing to see what people have created and crafted, and gives me hope knowing that there are still people around who value such things!

  That was awesome comment. Cheap, yes, here it is the “magical” word for shops. Maybe it was last week when I discussed with my wife about advertizing. All ads praised how cheap, but not a word from quality! I do not know how it is now there, but when seeing ads here, I got the feeling that nowadays the quality is not for sale. I want quality, not “junk”!
  
  Back to my photos. If You are looking photos (move mouse pointer over images to get the number) from 30 to 33, there are dolls. These dolls are “replicas” from dolls 1940,s from the war time, when men were in war and women at home with children. At those days there was lack of all. Children are children even at war times and mothers tried to use their imagination to create dolls for their daughters. Now You better understand why some dolls are looking like so poor.

  - That’s very interesting about mothers creating dolls during the war times. It’s amazing that in the horrible atmosphere of the word at war, people are still stimulated to create beautiful and pleasant things!

Bonjour Matti,
Davantage attirée par les activités et les objets, disons, plus masculins, ma préférence va aux travaux d’horlogerie, coutellerie, tapisserie et rénovation de meubles.
Pour les ouvrages purement féminins, j’admire le travail remarquable des dentelières (même si les yeux s’entrechoquent face à une telle difficulté !! 😉 )
Bravo en tout cas à tous ces passionnés qui désertent le petit écran ! 🙂

  Eh bien, object plus masculins… 🙂 J’ai essayé pour trouver tout des choses versatiles, mais je pense que le point de vue féminin est fortement représentées. N’oublions pas tous ces choses que j’ai presenté dans mon prologue. Il y a d’autres courses et un bon exemple est la langue allemande, dans laquelle ma femme a commencé le cours d’allemand de nouveau.

OMG, OMG, OMG!

Yes!!!

Clocks, cats, hats, chairs, bears, sewing machines, embellished eggs, chickens, scarves, angels, and more. I’m interested in all of these! And the playhouse. Oh, my gosh. I had one when I was four.

These photos conjure all sorts of emotions and memories, especially the stuffed animals.

I taught elementary school for twenty-seven years; and, during that time, my students gifted me with many, many stuffed animals and frogs. Not the live variety, though. Teehee.

Your photos relate to many treasured items I have here with me… items I just can’t bear to part with.

What a wide variety of handicrafted items. I have to say my favorites are the rag dolls in photos 18 through 20. I played with similar dolls when I was little and even made some for my little sisters.

  Funny, but have asked from that Lady the same question and she answered to me that it is not the problem. She is excellent teacher in this hobby area and I have met her many times when there exhibitions. Last time she told that in a contest (somewhere) she won or was it maybe her team which won, I am not so sure. I was surprised to hear that laces are yet made in Europe very much.

Do people in Finland watch a lot of TV in the winter?
If I was there in the winter, I would go to see the Northern Lights. 🙂
I want to take lots of pictures of them!

  Oh yes, there are really people who watch TV in winter and very much. Work has absorbed from many people their forces, and they simply are not able to do anything, but not all the people. Some people seem to have power to do anything they want; they are like fully charged batteries :). Generally, many people have run out of their spiritual forces. Busy working life has become tougher and people are “squeezed dry” or in other word exhausted. If somebody is leaving his / her job, then his / her works are distributed among the remaining workers. Competition in the work world is hard and results must get cheap. So it is here nowadays; maybe elsewhere also.
  
  Our country is long and Northern lights are mainly seen in the North beyond the Arctic Circle in winter time, yes mainly, but not always. Weather and Northern Lights are not always meeting each others; I mean that there are clouds in the sky preventing to see them. Living in the Southern part of Finland, I have seen Northern Light only twice or maybe three times.

What wonderful courses you have in Finland, that help people express their creativity in so many different ways. There is such a high level of skill displayed in each of the different handcrafts. I loved seeing how the lace is made – thank you for the pictures of the lace maker with all her bobbins. Such beautiful work! Janet

Guten Tag Matti,
As an introduction to this interesting and beautiful photographic journey, the angel in the first photo is well chosen.
He is something special and beautiful. From top to bottom, I especially liked the photos 4/5/7 to 12. The lace craft is very interesting and well known. The dolls in their elegant dresses can be any woman or doll-mother’s heart beat faster (images 18 to 33). I am particularly pleased to see this very nice Singer sewing machine. The backpack in Figure 44 is a piece of jewelry that would delight any traveler. Also I would like it, with Rangers photo. The Doll’s House in figure 48 reminds me of my youth. My father built us a doll’s house, with tiny furniture. The teddy bears in the images 61-64 are
something special for me. They look cute and would make every child’s heart beat even faster.
It’s nice that there are still people who deal with this craft and prepare other people to enjoy. These people have a lucky hand and admirable patience and imagination. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy this series again.

La Finlande est un pays d’artistes ! Que de beauté tu nous présentes, Matti. J’aime ces dentelles exquises, les poupées, les broderies sur chaises et canapés, les meubles et objects en bois de bouleau et bien sûr cette magnifique machine à coudre ancienne Singer ! Bravo à tous.Des activités bien plus actives et enrichissantes que des soirées TV… quoique parfois elles sont intéressantes aussi. Merci mille fois pour ces superbes photos.

toujours autant de jolies vues sur ton blog qui donnent envie de venir visiter ton pays. Moi qui arrive des Lofoten en Norvège, je trouve que les maisons sont assez semblables, le matériau et les couleurs, je pense.

  Merci de faire gentil commentaire. C’était intéressant que tu as visitée dans les îles Lofoten. Je n’ai pas encore été là, mais je connais quelques personnes qui ont été là. Il y a quelques années quand nous sommes allés par notre voiture jusqu’á le point plus septentrional d’Europe – “Nordkapp”. Cela était un très intéressant voyage de vacances voiture.
