On Saturday March 13th, 2010 we visited the exhibition of Finn Quilt when it celebrated its 20 years in Tampere. This exhibition was the biggest ever organized exhibition in Finland. I can say that there were a lot of quilts and patchworks to be seen. I am not presenting only photos from quilts and patchworks, but also from people and from selling stands.

  1. There are lots of very beautiful things there, and so well done! I admire quilting and patchwork very much. It is one of my favorite forms of art because unique in the mediums of art it is, besides being beautiful, also soft and warm. I’m very happy that I am not called on to judge such a display!

Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos! I makes me realize that the world of art is universal. You live in a beautiful place and I always love seeing the photos you take on your trips.

    • Hi Vanessa.

That was so nice to read what You said, thank You. When I publish the fourth part, it will have best photos from this exhibition. That will be sometimes in autumn. I am so glad that You like to see my photos from my “small world”, but having some times globally common things. To me, quilts and patchwork are art. Persons create something new, use skillfully colors, combine them and make something which is beautiful for one’s eye.

      Happy week-end!

  4. The variety of quilts and wall-hangings is amazing, and they are all just beautiful. I can only imagine the time and talent it took to create these wonderful works of art. The exhibition hall looks modern and comfortable. I think this exhibit is larger than any quilt exhibition I have seen here in the States.

    • Hello George.

So You are back again. I am so glad about it. Thank You for Your kind words. To me this post has a coincidence. When I planned it that I publish it just this week, I did not knew that my father-in-law died. Now when looking after publishing my post, I saw in three pictures a family standing by the funeral coffin in a chapel. Maybe some of the quilter’s family was dead.

      Happy week-end!

    • Hello Tamara.

Thank You. Very nice to hear that You have been stitching. When doing thing by hands, one creates something new. To create is important in one’s life; it does not matter what it is. Blogging is a good example of “different” kind of creating.

      Happy week-end!

  9. Oh, so many quilts! Very creatively done, too. And the colors. Hmm. I love the bright orange ones.

I especially like the quilt with the four houses in the center and the quilt with the dangles on the bottom side ’cause it’s so very different.

And I’d never seen quilted handbags before. What a concept!

Certainly, quilting is a skill that I’ve been interesting in trying for the past five years. One day, I guess, after I move on from my beading.

Thanks again so much for all the lovely photos.

    • Hello Deli.

I am glad that You visit my quilting and patchwork posts and also that You found some interesting among them. BTW, quilted handbags are quite popular here. You said it just like my wife. I’ll star quilting when I have time and I move to quilting after beading or maybe I keep both of them. These requires time, material, planning and work, more work etc.

      Happy Monday!

      Comment by sartenada — July 11, 2011 @ 18:22 | Reply

      • Ooh. I’ll be sure to share the quilted handbags tidbit. Maybe start that trend here in our island town?

You see, sometime between late October and March, the Winter Texans are here from their cold places in the states up north; and they love to quilt. So I may just drop a hint or two… and maybe start up a project to benefit our church.

Or I could just do that on my own… and then add beads to the bag(s). Novel idea!

You’re the best! Thanks for the idea!

  10. Wow, this is really an eye opener!
It’s amazing that how many different designs people could get from little pieces of clothes!
    I really like this series.
We do have some quilt exhibitions in London.
But it’s always from the USA.
I don’t know why… Maybe it’s very popular in the States?!

    Comment by London Caller — July 12, 2011 @ 14:33 | Reply

    • Hello London Caller.

It was so nice to read Your comment. I think that quilts and patchworks have long “history” in the States. It is good that it is spreading to other parts of world and then people can exchange ideas and models in Internet easily. My wife made these few years ago and I have presented some of her works in my first quilting post. It is # 8 or #8a from the top. She used to it 700 pieces. In my reply to Christel I explain also from where the idea was found. Also one curiosity in the same post is a patchwork which was made from 7000 pieces.

      Thank You Sir!

  11. You did such a great job capturing the beauty of these quilts. Loved the close-ups of the details. I frequently attend quilt shows here in North Carolina. it’s delightful to see that this art form transcends borders and nationalities. Thanks for another lovely visual vacation.

Thank You. I have always understood that general view completed with close-ups is important to persons who have this hobby and I am happy that You appreciated it. It is always a great pleasure to me to present something that is well known in other part of world like in Your case North Carolina.

      Happy Wednesday!

Fantastique exposition, merci.
