  1. These are lovely! I didn’t take any night shots from the city while we lived there, so it was nice to see your photos. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Oh, I did not knew that You left Finland. Hopefully You have some nice memories from this quite “unknown” country in the north.

Thank You commenting so nicely my post. For us who lives outside the Helsinki, it was high time to visit it again, because we did not visit there. Born in Helsinki, it is always to us interesting to see how its faces changes during the years.

      Have a wonderful day!

    Comment by Yvonne — January 29, 2015 @ 11:23 | Reply

    • Hi Yvonne.

Helsinki was beautiful, even there was no snow. Well, our visit was short, only one night. We took the train from Mikkeli and after three hours we booked in the hotel which photo I showed in the first photo. Then we went for some walks, shopping and eating. After few hours rest the photography tour started. The weather was cold due to “polar” wind. No, we did not go ice-skating this time. Our purpose was to see Helsinki, shopping and to shoot photos. Thank you for Your kind comment.

      Have a nice day!

  14. Your photos of the light show are quite impressive! I’m sure it is a welcome event during the long winter months of relative darkness. I couldn’t remember Finland’s latitude as compared to Alaska, so I just looked it up on a map, and it’s almost exactly the same, so the amount of dark/light would be equal. I especially like the wooden light installation and the first few photos of the geometric shapes hanging in trees. Seems I remember a blog of your in the past about building those. Excellent post!

    Comment by Marilyn Albright — January 29, 2015 @ 15:21 | Reply

    • Hello Marilyn.

I loved your comparison between Alaska and Helsinki. To us Finns, Helsinki is in the south, which is true. The length of the day varies where man lives. We wait with eager the vernal equinox. In Helsinki today the length of the day is: 7 h 41 min. and in my hometown Mikkeli, it is: 7 h 23 min. Well, the difference is not so much yet today, but anyway. Thank You commenting.

      Have a great day!

Muchas gracias por tu visita y comentario. Tengo de responder a tu pregunta en inglés, directo de la página de Visit Helsinki:

Kansalaistori is a new square and lawn area in the heart of the city located between the Music Centre and Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma along Mannerheimintie. The square is partially paved and in the summertime popular especially among skateboarders. The area has plenty of benches to sit and relax and watch all the activity around. The artificial turf playground located in the area provides a possibility for different kinds of sports activies, e.g. basketball, and there’s a paved bicycle route running through the area. Kansalaistori serves also as a venue for various events, such as Taste of Helsinki and Picnic Cinema during the annual Helsinki Festival.

  47. Beautiful pictures! It really looks like a winter paradise, and looks so wonderful all lit up. I also like the architecture.

  48. Helsinki looks so different in winter! I went in April and it was bright and sunny. I’d love to go in the colder months and maybe take a boat to Tallin…
