Mäntyharju with its gazebos / Mäntyharju con sus pabellónes / Mäntyharju avec ses pavillons

In English:

Mäntyharju with its gazebos.

When driving to the cottage of my late father, I sometimes make a short side jump to Mäntyharju. Mäntyharju or translated in English “Pine hill” is from Helsinki only two hours by car to the Northeast. It is very popular place for summer houses in Finland.

  1. I can see why it’s popular: it’s a beautiful setting! The gazebos are so wonderful and interesting and I love the boat house!

    • Hello Montucky.

I too love those gazebos. This place is a real summer place and the number of “inhabitants” is increasing during summer very much.

  2. What an interesting place! I love the house with the huge steeple/antennae/spire(?). And the first pictures of what looks to be a small garden shed.

  3. Good morning, Matti,
I enjoyed the sight of the beautiful landscape, the pavilion,t he blue flowers and the lake. The water reflections are fascinating. The design and colors of the pavilions harmonize beautifully with the colors of the landscape. I understand very well that you there, now and then, enjoy the peace. The large building I noticed particularly, from the bottom scroll up (Image 16). It would interest me, for what purpose it is used. I am grateful that I was allowed to visit this page and view your beautiful photos. e-mail will follow on Saturday. I wish you and Anya all the best and thank you for your nice comments. Sincerely Christel

  5. What a lovely place! I really like the gazebo photos and the boat in boathouse photos. Beautiful countryside. What kind of tree are those that are tall with with bark pictured in some of the photos?

    • Hi Anna.

Nice comment, thank You. I am glad that You liked those gazebos.

Now I am not quite sure about what trees You are asking. With bark there are pines. Also in photos there are Birches, Alders and White Willows. But can it be so that You are referring to pines?

      • Hello Anna.

So good. I understand very well the difficulty to recognize tree. We have tree different words for pine (=Pinus in Latin: Mänty, Petäjä (= same genre, but called this way in some part of Finland) and Honka (= Huge Pine). The last one is the most valuable, because many houses have been built from it. The most best is found in the Northern part of our country (Lapland) where those pines which have been growing during decades slowely and then died on the site and dried up. Houses built from these trees last and last from generations to others and they are resisting all types of weather.

There are differences with genres. For example where I am living our pines have long hanging branches, normally here branches of pine have branches which are growing upward.
