Quilt show in Kemi, Finland. Part 1.

It was cold, but sunny Sunday in March, when we headed our car towards the town called Kemi from Oulu. This small northern town is known about its Snow castle and Pink church. The road was iceless, which meant enjoyable carefree driving.

The purpose of our trip was to explore the quilt show in Kemi. The quilt show was arranged by the Finnish Quilting Association Finn Quilt, which is the nationwide association of quilt enthusiasts, in collaboration of local quild Tilkkukööri.

The admission fee was collected only from women, not from men. The quilts on display were divided into into two parts, those made in Finland and those made in Europe. In this post, I present only quilts made in Finland. I also took some close-ups of some of quilts that may interest among enthusiasts.

Hacía frío, pero día soleado el domingo de marzo, cuando dirigimos nuestro carro azul hacia la ciudad llamada Kemi de Oulu. Esta pequeña ciudad del norte se conoce sobre su Castillo de nieve y la Iglesia rosa. El camino estaba sin hielo, lo que significaba una conducción agradable y despreocupada.

El propósito de nuestro viaje fue para explorar la exposición de colchas en Kemi. La Exposición de colchas fue organizado por la Asociación Finlandesa de Acolchado Finn Quilt, que es la asociación nacional de entusiastas de los colchas, en colaboración con el gremio local Tilkkukööri.

La cuota de admisión fue recaudada sólo de mujeres, no de hombres. Las colchas expuestas se dividieron en dos partes, las fabricadas en Finlandia y las fabricadas en Europa. Il faisait froid, mais ensoleillé dimanche en mars, quand nous avons dirigé notre bagnole vers la ville appelée Kemi d’Oulu. Cette petite ville du nord est connue au sujet de son Château de Neige et Église rose. La route n’était pas verglacée, ce qui signifiait une conduite agréable et insouciante.

Le but de notre voyage était d’explorer l’exposition de courtepointe à Kemi. L’exposition de courtepointe a été organisée par l’association finlandaise Finn Quilt, qui est l’association nationale des passionné de courtepointe, en collaboration avec la guilde locale Tilkkukööri.

Seules les femmes devaient payer pour l’entrée et pour les hommes l’entrée était gratuite. Les courtepointes exposées étaient divisées en deux parties, celles fabriquées en Finlande et celles fabriquées en Europe. Dans ce post, je ne présente que des courtepointes faites en Finlande. J’ai également pris quelques gros plans de quelques courtepointes qui peuvent intéresser les passionnées.

Estava frio mas, ensolarado domingo em março, quando nós dirigimos o nosso carro para uma cidade chamada Kemi de Oulu. Esta pequena cidade do norte é conhecida sobre o seu Castelo de neve e a igreja rosa. A estrada não estava gelada, o que significou a condução despreocupada agradável.

O objetivo de nossa viagem foi explorar uma exposição de colchas de retalhos em Kemi. A exposição de colcha de retalhos foi organizado pela Finnish Quilting Association Finn Quilt, que é a associação nacional de entusiastas quilt, em colaboração com a guilda local Tilkkukööri.

  I am glad that You loved my post. Quilt are very near to my heart, because many years ago my wife quilted them. Well, one reason to it why men do not pay entrance fee is, that Ladies who visit this kind of exhibition could also drag in their husbands! I have visited maybe in 15 quilt shows and every time I have admired these artistic creations which have only one limit – imagination.

Absolutely amazing quilts. That must have been hours , days, weeks of work. They are like paintings, like no definitely pieces of art! My favourite is the butterfly one at the beginning, Just perfect.

  I am very glad that You loved my post and happy hearing that Your mom is quilter also. I checked Internet looking for new exhibitions of quilts, but at this moment there are not. I remember You and will check from time when there will be. Normally in summer, there are quilt shows. My wife has knitted all her life and while looking at TV, she knits. 🙂 At home, we realized that in this quilt show there were no quilted bag. Normally there are. They are popular in Finland and I have excellent (although I say so) post presenting. Among them there are some made by my wife:

Hello Matti, I meanwhile had not only one but many looks at your photos taken at the quilt show. They are all beautiful and quite a lot of these exhibition objects are really special masterpieces! In general I got the impression that having such ideas, creating such patterns and quilting such brilliant motives or complete sceneries is absolutely artistic. An art handicraft.
In many cases I fell in love with the abstract motives, often because of their fantastic colours or harmonic colour range. But only the next second I absolutely adored the realistic pictures with birds, light houses etc. So different even the effect when watching! You could compare some of these quilts made of shiny fabrics with paintings, others quilted with coarse material seem to be far more textile and appear even in a three-dimensional manner.
I’m full with admiration of such extraordinary skills .. Great!

My left eye is blind since three and half years and few days ago, I had consult doctor due to my right eye. Today it is the first day, when I can see better. Every day, I see better and better. I was looking at the thin quilt runner that was very puffy, and saying, “I have that fabric! And that one too!” 🙂
My favorite is the one in subtle colors with the leaves and various stitching patterns, and I also love the one next to it that has small squares, with one large square of a scene set off-center.
And those wintry landscapes would be great souvenirs of my recent trip to Germany where we experienced wintry weather we never have here in Texas!

  Photo 7 shows it on the left, photo 8 totally and photo 9 she with the quilt. The model (pattern) which she made was taken from the Azores, but colors my wife selected. This quilt is still in uses in out home and it and it decorates our couch. We love it very much Thank You commenting.
