Thank You very much once more Anneli.

My first award from January 3, 2012 which I got from Judy.

I was surprised to get the Versatile Blogger Award!

My thanks belongs to Judy! I was wondering long time why me, until she explained that I have explained in my posts about she was seeing but not only photos.
There are rules that everyone must follow after being nominated.

The Rules:

These are the rules that every nominee must comply with:

1. Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs you enjoy reading.
4. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

I start with 7 things from me.

1. I love walking in the woods and wilderness enjoying the beauty that Mother Nature offers to us. There I can hear my own thoughts, not only sounds of the nature.

2. I love driving fast, but only when in Germany on its freeways (Autobahnen) where are no speed restrictions. I enjoy the feeling to steer my car at high speed. Not all the time, but few times whne in Germany with acceptance of my wife! Normally I drive very carefully having great respect for my fellow drivers and traffic rules.

3. I love to make statistics. Some examples: My car’s fuel consumption (meter reading, refueling place, date, amount of fuel, price). I started it in 1972 putting information to notebook. Later, when I got Excel worksheet in 1993, I started to transfer all these info to worksheets. Also I keep records from water and electricity consumption in our household. Alsokeep statistics how many kilometers we have walked when outdoors.

4. I make bookkeeping in or home. Excel again using Debit and Credit having possibility to take different reports once a month. All these need self-discipline to make all records after shopping. Of course in our family we have an annual budget. This means that we know exactly our financial situation per day, per week, per month, quaterly, per year. My worksheet includes “complicated” formulas and some VBA programming.

5. I love reading. There is always a book on my bedside table. My favorite books are French science fictions and more specially space stories. They are not published in English. Another genre which I like is books telling from the Wild West. My favorite writer is Zane Grey.

6. Music is very near to my heart. My music taste is odd. Most of all I love South American music coming from Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Chile. This music genre is called Cumbia. This is not so called Latin Rhythm which is widely heard; there is a difference like between day and night. In addition to that I love the music of the 60ties. In many cases it is instrumental rock played by electric guitars, What comes to my music taste generally, I love music in which there is a distinct melody! It means to me, that I can whistle or to hum alongside with it. Music with rhythm makes my feet to tap. My favorite singer is Elvis.

7. Travel, yes, that I love it very much. Photography is a natural part of modern travel. I have with me two cameras and my smartphone. With it I can take photos and HD videos. When on travel I have work distribution with my wife. I am shooting photos and she full HD videos.

    • Hi Debra.

Your blog deserves the nomination. Every blog, which I selected, is a “window” to the world of their publishers and thru them I have learnt very much about people, landscapes, nature, history, habits etc. This is richness of our life regardless of where we live.

  2. Thank you so much Matti! That is really kind of you. It may take me a while to get around to the seven things.

    • Hello Tammy.

You are welcome. It took from me about one week to made this post, because it was holiday time and visits in Internet were not so often. I guess that the nomination is an honor, and it does not oblige anyone if someone feels “uncomfortable” in heart.

  3. Ha ha… Do I have to do this in four languages?
I am going to visit Helsinki this month. :)
I would also like to visit Tallinn while I am there.
Do you have any recommendations for me?
I hope I will be able to see lots of snow in Helsinki.

    Comment by London Caller — January 3, 2012 @ 17:06 | Reply

    • Hi London Caller.

I think that in this case in English, but it You who decides. Welcome to Helsinki!!! It has been warm, hmm, I mean “our warm” in winter. Yesterday it was snowing, today snow is melting, but more snow is coming. To visit in Tallinn is easy, because there are many ferries between Helsinki and Tallinn daily. When in Tallinn, then visit the old town. I have a video from Old Tallinn among my YouTube videos. You’ll find it easily when searching this: “Old Tallinn in winter “. Recommendations are difficult to give without any specifications.

Maybe the best is, that You check all my

      Helsinki pics.

At this moment there are 21 posts (winter / summer).

      1. update on Wednesday the 4th.

Here is the link to the official pages in English of

      City of Helsinki.

At this moment in Helsinki the depth of snow is only 4 centimeters. Here where I live (about 50 km to the North of Helsinki) we have snow about 12-15 centimeters. So, if You can tell to me when You come, how many days You stay and what Your interests to see in Helsinki are, then I could give more precise info to You.

  4. Thank you very much for thinking of me. I enjoyed reading the seven things about you — some I knew, but others were new. As a former math professor, I was very interested to learn of your interest in statistics.

    Thank you again.

    • Hello George.

Statistics are interesting. As I wrote in my “About me” page, I made quality reports in Finnair, my ex-airline company. It was natural continuum to that, what I had done in my “civil” life during decades. I give one example here from luggage claim. The airport authority had a system which worked so that the person, who put the first luggage on carousel, made the flight number and pushed the button when the first luggage started its trip to passengers. When the last luggage was on the way for delivery, then the luggage handler pushed the last luggage button.

The system of airport authorities made from this flight a report in which it was told when the plane was landed, parked, when the first luggage was delivered and the last one. I received daily huge amount of these reports from mainframe. I let my Excel with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) program handle it. The result was per flight how long time it took when the first passenger got his luggage and long time it took when the last passenger of the flight go this baggage. So, I was able to tell to the managers how good we handled our luggage compared also with our target times. Of course I made summaries from different aircraft types etc.

My reports were used for example, if some passenger reclaimed that he has been waiting for his luggage too many minutes. We could answer to the passenger exact info.

How these things are today, I have no idea.

It is the music that I said in the 6th; music with the distinct, beautiful melody with rhythm. It was published already in December the 13th, 1961. So, it is more than 50 years old. :)

    • Hello Terry.

Thank You. As I already said that every blog is a window to its writer’s world. So it is Yours. I have learnt very much from Montana thru Your wonderful blog without knowing apparently anything before. The only thing I knew, that the name must come from Spanish. Mountain is in Spanish Montaña. Now I know that it is extremely beautiful, full of flowers and wild animals, trails, woods, rivers, mountains, valleys etc. Every time when I visit Your site, it is a trip in which I feel that I am myself passing there in Your country thru Your photos. Your text reinforces that what I see and then the experience is more enjoyable.

      Happy Thursday!

  14. It was my pleasure to nominate you for this award. I always enjoy your posts. I didn’t know you like reading so much. If you want a good Canadian adventure and love story with a bit of suspense too, why not check out The Wind Weeps (Anneli Purchase). It’s on amazon.de as well as amazon.co.uk and amazon.com.
Anyway, keep posting those lovely photos of Finland. It’s so much like many parts of Canada.

    Comment by wordsfromanneli — May 23, 2012 @ 17:52 | Reply

    • Hello Anneli.

Thank You very much. I checked its description and it sound so good. I and my wife are “heavy” readers, both since our childhood. I have read thousand of books and in our home library we have few thousand books. I read books in their original language and it is my way to learn foreign languages. For example my first French dictionary is so worn that I will keep it as a curiosity. I have not used it for 15 years, because I have huge amount of passive knowledge of French words. Already in School I translated Swedish books to Finnish word by word and wrote translation between lines.

I keep posting photos and info from Finland once a week. My blog has taught me to know better my own country, because I have been visited in smallest villages taking photos and searching backgrounds for those things which I have photographed. I have some surprises later from things which cannot be found than only in Finland.

      Happy book writing to You.
