North of Arctic Circle 12 / Al norte del Círculo polar ártico 12 / Au nord du Cercle Arctique 12 / Ao norte do Círculo Polar Ártico 12

In English:

Day 9 (Saturday, September 07, 2013). Distance: 234km / 145.4mi. Temperature: morning 8.0ºC / 46.4ºF and evening 18ºC / 64.31F. Route: Muonio-Kittilä-Arctic Circle at Rovaniemi.

It was time to leave Muonio and drive to the South. We were pretty tired after yesterday’s hike, so we did not woke up at the same time when the rooster crows. I packed our things and carried them to our car while Anja made cleaning although the cleaning included to the price, but we did not want that after us rooms are not looking like “pigsties” after our visit!

Our first stop was at Molkoköngäs rapids. Molkoköngäs sounds horrible in my ears and he word Köngäs means a steep waterfall rapid, along which man cannot make white-water rafting using the row boat. Anyway it is nice place for a short stop by the Ounasjoki River. Molkoköngäs is popular fishing place among sport fishermen. After seeing the rapids of Molkoköngäs, we enjoyed our coffee and take a look at our two coffee tables, maybe unique. Lol.

From Molkoköngäs we drove direct to the Arctic Circle. We planned to spend one night there, before driving to our home. We spent one night at Santa Claus Holiday Village in a nice cottage. We have visited Arctic Circle at different seasons and now at fall. The place was quite quiet because it was the high season was over and the fall season was to come.

En español:

Día 9 (Sábado, 07 de septiembre 2013). Distancia: 234 kilometros / 145.4mi.

    • Alaska — I agree! hopefully not all the mosquitoes?

      Comment by betunada — June 9, 2014 @ 17:03 | Reply

      • Betunada, I Lapland there are also mosquitoes, but the amount varies. The autumn is the best time for a visit if we consider mosquitoes. During some cold nights they vanish “totally”. As You noticed when following this road trip, we had nothing to worry about them.

Thank You for Your visit and comment. There are few places in Finland where I want to visit from time to time and among them is Arctic Circle which is just to the North of the town called Rovaniemi. It is at its best in winter. There is possibility to meet also Santa Claus.

Thank You for Your praising comment. You have there warm indeed. Now we have had cold season during some days, but before it had also 30ºC. The highest was 30.7ºC and in my home town in Mikkeli we had 29.9ºC. Although warm was good for people it is not for the nature, because it came too early. Always there will be cold after this kind of early heat wave and so it happened.

Now You know that You can visit in Naantali (Moomins) and many beautiful places outside Helsinki. We have excellent train and bus connections between towns. To reach for example the Arctic Circle night train is excellent choice instead of flight. Welcome someday and remember to tell to me.

  22. Beautiful photos! The rapids with the colorful trees in the background are gorgeous. My favorites are your coffee-break photos. I think coffee tastes better in the woods.

Thank You for Your comment. I am glad that You loved our “coffee table” idea. After driving for long time it is good to stand, not only to sit.

      Happy weekend.

    • Hello キース.

So nice that You loved my photos from this Arctic area. Souvenirs, yes something small to us and one T-shirt to our goddaughter who lives in Peru. Once I bought from there a very warm winter hat which so warm that my brains do not freeze in the coldest weather. 🙂

  28. I understand high latitude to see these clothes in September. There is a day more than 35 degrees that Japan becomes hot year by year and is over in May. The Japanese Islands greet rainy season in June. I follow until the middle of July. Gloomy.

I am very happy that You visited my blog and loved my photos. 35 degrees are “too” much for active outdoors life.

  29. What beautiful clear skies. I don’t want to go down those rapids in a canoe. It is nice that there is a line, to show where the Arctic circle is.

    Comment by Tokeloshe — June 3, 2014 @ 21:40 | Reply

    • Hello Tokeloshe.

Thank You for commenting. The line is during summer the most popular place to take from oneself.

  32. i suspect i sound like a “broken record” but much of the scenery makes me “pine” (so to speak) for my own state’s more elevated realms. (obviously, i’m “stuck” at the lower, more desert, areas). the axual arctic circle, eh? “how northerly”! (the furthest north i’ve been is about 55)

    Comment by betunada — June 9, 2014 @ 17:06 | Reply

    • Hello Betunada.

Thank You commenting. Well, the latitude 55 is in Europe equal to Glasgow, Scotland. From my perspective is in the South. 🙂

      Have a great day!

  35. Was great to see your visit to my photography and crafts blog and your comments on my sewing crafts. Enjoyed my visit to your blog and will stop back again. Thanks for the link to Karen’s quilting. I’ve never tackled doing a quilt but my grandparents were always making them, and maybe someday but for now I just sew and crochet items. Your photos on your blog are breath-taking. 🙂

  36. Thanks for visiting Gwichyaa Zhee, Sartenada. The stream at Molkokongas is beautiful – the Yukon is very muddy by comparison. I enjoyed trying to identify the trees, too, since I am on the same latitude. I saw birch and at least one fir of some kind, I think. Our conifers are spruce, but I think yours are some kind of pine – am I right?

    Comment by dave — November 15, 2016 @ 07:48 | Reply

    • Hi Dave.

Thank You leaving Your kind comment. There were pines, spruces and birches. Birches are at this latitude dwarf birches. It is interesting to compare landscapes at same latitude.

      Have a good day!
