Old town of Tammisaari.

Tammisaari (population about 15000) is a sleepy town, especially its old town, when visiting it early in the morning and during the off-season. This can be seen from my photos which I took in 2006 and 2011. I like to stroll on its narrow alleys between old wooden houses. Many of its houses are from 19th century and even from 18th century. Tammisaari is a seaside town with beautiful harbor which makes it more interesting for short visit. It was founded in 1546.

Inhabitants speak mainly Swedish and Finnish of course in addition to English. That means that street signs are first in Swedish and then in Finnish. From Helsinki it is easy acceptable by car, one hour and ten minutes to the direction of West. In Swedish Tammisaari is called Ekenäs. Tammmisaari is “Oak Island” in English as freely translated.

Tammisaari (población alrededor de 15000) es una ciudad tranquila, sobre todo su vieja ciudad, al visitar a primera hora de la mañana y a la temporada baja. Esto se puede ver a través de mis fotos que tomé en 2006 y 2011. Me gusta pasear por sus estrechas callejuelas entre casas de madera. Muchas de sus casas son del siglo 19 e incluso desde el siglo 18. Tammisaari es una ciudad costera con puerto hermoso que lo hace más interesante para una visita breve. Fue fundada en 1546.

Los hsabitantes hablan principalmente idioma sueco y finés, por supuesto, además de Inglés. Esto significa que las señales de tráfico son primero en sueco y luego en finés. Desde Helsinki es fácil viajar para allá en carro, una en hora y diez minutos en dirección de oeste. En sueco Tammisaari se llama Ekenäs. Tammmisaari es “Oak Island” en Inglés, traducción libre.

Ceci peut être vu á travers des mes photos que j’ai prises en 2006 et 2011. J’aime flâner sur ses ruelles étroites entre les vieilles maisons en bois. Beaucoup de ses maisons sont du 19ème siècle et même du 18ème siècle. Tammisaari est une ville littorale avec un port mignon qui le rend plus intéressante pour un séjour court. Elle a été fondée en 1546.

Les habitants parlent principalement suédois et finlandais en plus de l’anglais. Cela signifie que les plaques de rue sont d’abord en suédois etpuis en finnois. Depuis Helsinki, elle est facile d’attaindre en voiture, á une heure et dixminutes à la direction de l’Ouest. En suédois Tammisaari est appelée Ekenäs. Tammmisaari est appelée”Oak Island” traduit librement d’ anglais.

Thanks for the pleasant tour of this beautiful and quiet old town. I love the various delightful coloured wooden houses, spacious and neat..also the lovely port – excellent photography with wonderful reflection in the water..thanks for sharing this wonderful place!

  Well, it is peaceful, although our / my visits were early in the morning. Many times I have been thinking that when people are looking my photos, then they might think in their mind: where are all the people. When I am taking my photographic tours, I really start them early. Sometimes I am leaving from my home at four or five o’clock in the morning, but of course depending the length of my journey. 🙂

  Many of our coastal small towns have small ports and long tradition of seafaring on local areas. To have a boat or sailing boat, when living by the sea is very common, as well as those who lives or have a summer cottage on the shores of some lake. Well, to me to have a boat is a dream, which never realize, because my wife is afraid of sea.

Thanks for taking us to this old town. The buildings are beautiful — I especially like the bright colors on many of them. The bell tower is also very impressive. But I think I like the harbor and the trees around it best of all. It is definitely a place to visit in order to enjoy the quiet beauty.

Encore une très jolie ville bien paisible, seul le bruit de la moto est venu perturber la visite !
Un faible pour les maisons rouges ou jaunes, et pour ce bateau de croisière (mieux entretenu, j’espère, que ceux de la Volga 😦 )

  Thank You. You gave good point when saying that I am exploring places constantly. To that, there are some reasons. When I was working for Finnair I explored the world and at same time I neglected explore my own country. Now I have “time” to do so and to find many weird things in my country. Because I love driving, it inspires me to explore my country easily and enjoying. 🙂
  
  I love also photographing and making “photo documentaries” by blogging and at same time to enjoy when nice, great people are interested in my “unknown” small country. Thank to You and to all the others.

I find it fascinating the houses are sitting on the edge of the road. The cars and travelers are only inches away from the windows of the cottages. The village looks quaint and as if from a time long ago.

  Thank You commenting. You made very interesting observation, I am very glad about it. First I was thinking in my mind, that its roads are is built on the same paths where cows passed, because the town is old, but then, I decided to study what our National Board of Antiquities (NBA) is saying. When translating from its page freely, I got this: “Tammisaari is in addition to the medieval town of Porvoo, the only town, which town plan is not changed to the regular square plan from its the 1600s town plan”. So the streets are seemingly in the original town plan from 1550’s.

This looks like a charming little town, far away from the main tourist areas.
I like it because it will be a great to to walk around.
Anyway, this town also reminded me of Aland.
I collect stamps so I know a bit about Soumi stamps. 🙂

  Thank You commenting. I am surprised that You know Åland, very nice. That is a place in where I plan to visit next year with my wife. Stamp collecting is a very great hobby. I collected them also when I was young, but then came others interests like DXing, which is the hobby to listen to distant radio stations. If I remembered correct I “conquered” about 85 countries.

Lovely little town Matti – when I think of Finland I picture a scene like those ones…it must be so interesting to live in a place that has so much history. I also wondered where all the people were…I admire your dedication…I couldn’t wake up at 5am for the prettiest view!!!

This nice small town looks so lovely in the sunny weather, it reminds me of the town, where I was born, Ribe, which is the oldest town in Denmark – 1300 years!!! ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribe )

Thank You. I think that many small coastal towns have their charm. Maybe it is an advantage that the town is a “sleepy town”, because then one can stroll around in it in peace.

I want to visit!

The views remind me of places I’ve been here in the states.

We live on Mustang Island off the Texas coast, so we have similar scenes, though the buildings are quite different.

Still, your photos reminded me a lot of Rockport, which is about thirty miles from here.

Quelle charmante petite ville au bord de l´eau ! J´imagine des vacances tranquilles dans un environnement accueillant. J´aime ces maisons de bois colorées comme posées sur des socles (á cause de la neige ?), le charme ancient de ce grand bateau blanc, la promenade le long de la mer et cette église aux pierres rustiques. L´automne, septembre, octobre, est-il déjá froid en Finlande ? Merci de ces belles images.

  Septembre c’est pas froid pas du tout, mais en October quelque fois oui. Plusieurs fois aussi Octobre peutêtre doux, mais à la fin de Octubre parfois il y a froid. On doit se rappeler que le froid depende si on est dans le Nord quand on est la-bas en visite. Par exemple, on peut en Septembre randonnée presque dans toutes parties dans Finland, aussi dans les parties Nord, mais les nuits peuvent être froides, mais la neige ne peut pas être trouvée.
