In English:

In 2014 we made short (1410 kilometers / 876 miles) road trip in Finland. During five days we saw a lot of things, like churches, Poor-man statues, some towns, old historical wooden houses, sandy beaches, carved bears, aviation museum, Votive ship etc.

Today I present to You Nallikari beach and camping site in Oulu, Finland. The driving distance from Helsinki is 607 kilometers / 377 miles. So the beach of Nallikari is at 65°01′ Northern latitude. When comparing it with the Arctic Circle which is at 66° 33′ 39″ Northern latitude, makes it interesting. Is there warm? Yes, when we were there the air temperature was 31ºC / 87.8ºF. Enjoy visiting this Northern beach thru my photos.

  2. It looks to be a popular place, at least in the summer. The beach is lovely, and the water must have been a little bit warm, judging by the people in it. I like the gym equipment, good idea.

    • Hello Yvonne.

The beach is by the sea, not by the lake. Generally speaking, the sea is colder than lakes, but last year we had six weeks “hot” weather, which meant that the water was suitable for swimming. Thank You commenting so nicely.

      Have a wonderful day!

Thank You commenting. Let us hope that You will have sunny and warm days in Sweden. Many years ago, we made overnight stop in Jokkmokk, Sweden. It was also August and the temperature was very similar than in Oulu. We will visit Nallikari during 7, 8, and 9 in upcoming August. 🙂

  21. It’s always amazing to imagine that – though it’s rather close to the Artic Circle! – you can enjoy summer temperatures and beach there as well.
I don’t know why but there is a secret thought in many people’s head (which, of course, is more an incorrect idea) that whispers Finland has to be the country of snow, frost and feather down jackets. Perhaps it’s because we mostly get an idea of it when a documentary film is showing reindeer and mooses, their fur covered with a lot of ice crystals or television is airing the live broadcast of the annual ski jumping of Lahti. Which is always a rather cold thing …

I’m so glad that you are showing your country in its diversity, Matti! Since I started to follow your “Sartenada”-Blog, I learnt quite a lot of your beautiful country and got a realistic idea about the size, the different landscapes, the climate, the culture and much more. That’s absolutely fantastic!
    Thank you very much!
Your today’s photos are beautiful as always and I just had a look on the map to see the exact location of Nallikari (Oulu). I just discovered that it is the beach at the north-eastern part of the Gulf of Bothnia. This means it’s more than 2000 kilometers further to the North than my city of Hamburg.
The water must be cold there … ^^

Best wishes and have a nice evening!
    Michèle

    • Hi Michele.

Wow, that is comment! Thank You.

You are right that Finland has image of winter country. It is true of course, but we have summer. Best summer time is from Jun to august. Two last weeks of May are summer weeks and two first weeks in September also. This makes total four months when temperature is warm or sometimes hot.

All the Scandinavia and Finland gets warm from the Gulf Stream, which starts from Florida and across the Atlantic Ocean. It arrives to the Norwegian coastline finally and thus warms us. Sometimes in the Northern part of Finland, which is called Lapland, is warmer than in other parts of Finland. Summer warm arrives to Finland from the south or from the east. Warm winter weather arrives from the west and south-west, which means snow and snow. The real cold weather arrives from the east.

The distance from Hamburg is shorter than you mentioned. Hamburg – Stockholm 981 km. From Stockholm to Turku by boat, from Turku to Oulu is 674 km. Total: 1655 km. It is many kilometers also. The route from Turku is passing the western coastline, which is the area with beautiful landscapes and beautiful small towns. If You would like to make this kind of road trip, then I suggest to You make a night stop in Mariehamn, Åland Islands. The route from Stockholm to Turku passes thru wonderful archipelago, which is one of the most beautiful in the world.

Starting next winter we will stay in Oulu from one month to two months, then again back to Mikkeli for few weeks and again to Oulu for few weeks. Therefore, if You some summer decide to visit Oulu and Rovaniemi (Arctic Circle), then tell to us and we could see then.

Here are three examples of western coast old towns:

      Naantali.

      Old Rauma.

      Idyllic Kristinestad.

In my next post, I will present the old town of Kokkola.

      Have a nice day!

This Arctic beach is one of our favorite place when we visit to Oulu. In my next post, You’ll see a beach with dunes, which is our absolute favorite. I am very happy when reading that You loved my post. Thank You.

  35. You visited my hometown, Oulu. I do hope you enjoyed your Finnish roadtrip and the offerings of Oulu. When you hit a particularly good summer, it’s a terrific town to spend a few days in before heading further up north into the Lapland.

    • Hi m3nkku.

Oulu is fantastic town! We will be more and more in Oulu starting next November because we will buy Holiday home from there. Last weekend we were in Nallikari again, but the weather was cool and there was some rain. On Saturday, we made sightseeing in Oulu and thus got more info. Thank You commenting.

Here my previous post presenting Oulu:

      Oulu 2013.

      Oulu 2007 & 2014.

I hope to see You Oulu posts in the future.

    Comment by Truels — August 15, 2015 @ 20:39 | Reply

    • Hello Truels.

Thank commenting. The water was not so warm, because it is the sea, not a lake. )

Thank you for Your kind comment. In August, we have many time gorgeous weather. Could You ever imagine that in the North, not so far away from the Arctic Circle, the weather could be warm?

      Have a nice day!

  38. ‘Arctic Beach’ sounds a bit chilly? 🙂

    Comment by Seenorway — April 24, 2016 @ 14:43 | Reply

    • Hello Seenorway.

Yes, it sounds and it was cold. The cold weather with hard wind requires good clothing. 🙂 This beach is not so far away from the Arctic Circle.

      Happy Monday!
