  3. didn’t know you had carnival like this in finland, always thought the weather to be too cold. I don’t know, it’s a stereotype ppl from southern Europe have maybe, sorry :o).

    • Hi Thelocalguide. I guess that You are right. Last summer when I visitited these festival, which was in order XIX, there were some tourists from Brazil also. But those who were visting Helsinki without any earlier information, seemed to be very surprized. In 2020 the XX Samba Festivals are hold on 11-12.6.2010. Bem-vindo!

  7. Yes…I was surprised. I’m hoping to come to Finland this summer, along with a lot of other Eastern European countries!

    Comment by Travel Spirit — March 2, 2012 @ 16:25 | Reply

    • Hello Travel Spirit.

You are welcome. So nice to read that You are surprised. In Finland You can find: East meets West, Finnish culture has many things from the time when we were under the rule of Sweden and then we have also our own culture. If You are interested in “Eastern culture”, then take a look at my Orthodox churches.

In addition of Annual Samba festivals we have also Tango festival. Yes, we are yet dancing Tangos and we make them. One unforgettable memory might be to visit on some open air dancing pavilion on country side. Then we have great castles like Olavinlinna Castle in which there it is hold every summer Opera Festivals inside the castle. Check for castles in my blog to get better idea of Olavinlinna castle. Check also Suomenlinna castle in Helsinki in my blog – surprises more.

      Thank You for Your comment.
