  17. I enjoyed it very much to scroll down and see so many beautiful stained glass windows! Your Oulu Cathedral ist rather beautiful, Matti. Light, elegant and quite natural and even unpretentious as far as the outside is concerned. A very friendly look! On top of it the cathedral interior. This combination of a rather attractive nave, stained glass windows as well as impressive organ and votive ships makes the whole church rather special to me.
Thanks also for your link to Carl Ludvig Engel!

Thank You. Votive ships are gorgeous presenting high craftsmanship. Who makes them, must take regard that people see them below. This is why their bottom part is bigger than it would be normally. I have read somewhere that it takes about a year to make them.

    • Hello Isabella.

Oh, thank you loving my post. We have some nice churches in Finland. Maybe You love this one:

      St. Henry’s church

This church near to Helsinki is one of my favorite:

      Church of Lohja

On all of its walls, there are chalk paintings.

      Happy Sunday!

  37. Most of the cathedrals are exaggerated with gold painted and decorated and filled with treasures and riches, which I personally find hypocritical by the church leaders to the blindness of the poorer population. Nevertheless, this group of people, by their faith, would still give their last possession for the richness of the church! It should be otherwise, the church should have to support the poorer! This cathedral is different … It looks beautiful because of the serenity and lightness that it radiates, but also the beautiful drawings in Stained glass adorn this beautiful cathedral.
    Enjoy your day, Heidi

  38. You have such a sublime and imposing Cathedral in Oulu,Matti! It was a brilliant idea to share all these magnificent interior photos,I am stunned by all the structure details and the glorious stained glass windows. What a pity it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. It’s quite old though. The votive ships are superb,we offer votives to churches too in Greece.Have a beautiful spring day.
