I took plenty of nice photos and due to that I had to divide them into three parts. This part has 51 photos. Enjoy Quilts and Patchwork.

Good Friday morning Madhu.
Thank You. I appreciate Your comment very much.
Have a lovely week-end!

I’ve got a lot of blog catching up to do at the moment, but these are BEAUTIFUL, … I wanted to say that Little Mr who looked at these with me was particularly interested and very partial to the one in mostly black/white with all the little cars and the arrows down the sides… now I’m in trouble because he’s hinted (in typical lack of subtlety of 7 year old boys) that this would be a perfect gift for his next birthday, and wistfully mentioned that I should try and contact this quilts owner so I can buy it for him!
Comment by kiwidutch — August 10, 2012 @ 08:43 |
Hello Kiwidutch.
Thank You for Your comment. I checked from the original photo that who made that quilt and found the name Anneli Virta who seems to be the member of
Vaasan Tilkkupatteristo.
These sections of quilts have blogs in BlogSpot.fi, but there are no contact addresses. I am sorry. One possibility is if You make a comment on some post and tell what You want.
Happy Friday!

What beautiful quilts! I particularly like the ones with sailboats and the anchor quilt with anchor buttons – they’re so creative. Great post!

They are all so beautiful – amazing work – and a lovely display. I can see the Finnish influence – lots of boats, nautical themes, water & ice. I couldn’t pick a favourite – I know how much work goes into every one of them. Thank you for sharing.
Comment by basildonkitchens — August 10, 2012 @ 17:01 |
Hi Connie.
I never thought that Finnish influence is so visible in these quilts. Well, maybe it is good thing. Thank You very much for Your comment.

Hi Janet.
Thank You. It was “difficult” to shoot photos from these, because I felt myself incompetent the in front of these quilts.
Have a wonderful week-end.
Comment by Sartenada — August 11, 2012 @ 07:38 |
These quilts are so beautiful and colorful. Each one is a work of art. Did your wife make one of these?
Comment by Northern Narratives — August 10, 2012 @ 21:48 |
Hi Northern narratives.
I am glad that You commented this post of mine. None are made by my wife. I have some photos from her works in earlier quilting post.
Happy Monday!
Comment by Sartenada — August 13, 2012 @ 14:31 |
These quilts are beautiful. You have many talented quilters in Finland. I especially enjoyed the quilts with the sailboat designs, but that anchor is very impressive as well. Thank you for sharing these with us.
Comment by seniorhiker — August 11, 2012 @ 03:11 |
Hi George.
I appreciate Your comment very much. I think that sailing boat designs are popular for those quilters who live by the sea and the town of Vaasa is on the Western coast of Finland.
Nice week-end.
Comment by Sartenada — August 11, 2012 @ 07:42 |
They have moved beyond quilt making into a combined form of art. They are incredible, each one of them!

Hello Karen.
Sorry being so late with my answer to Your comment. The reason to it is that my mother died last Saturday. This requires few days from me to adapt.
Anyway I wish to You a very happy Monday!

Wow! These are all amazing. These quilts are Art in itself. Each one has a story to tell. My favorites are the seascapes…a beautiful way to celebrate Summer even during Winter time.

Clive and Adi.
Thank You very much for Your your kind words. She lived to the age of 93, even though she had to overcome during her life eight surgical operations. Invitation to the Heaven released her from earthly problems. Time heals grief, so I believe. I remember her thru many photos and a small video which I took this year will enliven her memory.
Comment by Sartenada — August 14, 2012 @ 06:45 |
Hello again, Matti;
Yes, time does heal grief but grief never vanishes – it just gets softer. I lost all my close relatives now. My Father was 95, his sister, my favourite Aunt was also 95. I did my best for them – that is a comfort.
Now I have another comfort; your lovely song “Oi Muistatko Viela Sen Virren”. We don’t have a song like that in UK. Although so sad, it does bring so much comfort.
Adi & I will light a candle for you and yours,
Clive and Adi.
Comment by Clive and Adi Anderson — August 14, 2012 @ 11:00 |
Hi Clive and Adi.
Thank You. You are talking wise words. That hymn by Oskar Merikanto, is really beautiful and freely translated it is: “Oh, do you remember still the hymn that was sung when we were child”. There are hundreds of recordings from that. Oskar Merikanto has composed one of the most famous Waltzes in Finland: Kesäillanvalssi = “Summer evening’s Waltz”.
Matti.

Quelle magnifique exposition !

Comment by Sartenada — August 15, 2012 @ 12:12 |
Comment by isathreadsoflife — August 15, 2012 @ 15:09 |
Salut Isa.
Comment by Sartenada — August 16, 2012 @ 06:37 |
Sorry to hear about your Mother Matti,
My condolences to you and your family. My Oma (Grandma) passed away just two months short of her 100th Birthday, she was extra special to me since my Mother died young of cancer. Time will make things easier and you will be able to remember all the good times you had together with happiness and not sadness.
The Dutch wish people “strength” at these times so I wish you … “sterkte!”

I got good feeling when reading Your nice comment. My wife has been also quilter and she says that someday again. At this moment she is beading. Thank You very much for Your comment.
Have a lovely week-end!

Hello Matti,
I am asking you for a favour. In two weeks I will present a MS Power Point slide show of our holiday in Finland. It will be for our church group, “Friend to Friend” This is for older people who meet on Tuesday afternoons. I will show photos of our time in Helsinki and I will play Finnish music (Kanteleeni, Oi Muistatko. . . etc.
Please, may I use some of your photos of Finnish countryside? I want everybody to see what a beautiful country you live in and why I like to go there for holidays.
Clive, Isle of Wight.

Hi Clive and Adi.
Affirmative. I’ll answer to You better by email. Today my time goes mainly when storing first part of our winter firewood to our home wood store. It is hard job.
Matti.
