Airing national costumes / Aireando trajes nacionales / Aération de costumes nationaux / Arejamento das trajes nacionais

In English:

Airing national costumes

My photos are from Oulu on the airing day of national costumes. The airing day may sound odd, but on this special day, it is customary to take the national costumes out of the closet and to ventilate them. What is the best of all this, is to ventilate them together with other people who have one. National costumes and folkdances belong together.

In Finland, there are 400 different national costumes. Many make them themselves, but to make it is not a piece of cake, because it can last a couple of years. Many national costumes are inherited in the family. Some examples when to wear national costumes: wedding, in different festivities, in folk dancing groups, in many parties like family, local historic events etc. If man do not have national costume for some special event, it is possible to rent it.

En español:

Aireando trajes nacionales

    • Hello Lorelle.

Thank You for Your kind comment. Concerning the young people, I think, but not sure, that this happening is vanishing slowly. Sigh. In Oulu there were young, but in Mikkeli in my previous post, there were only few. I think that the situation varies around Finland. Here in Helsinki when travelling in metro, young people are interested in their smart phones. Reading books is vanishing, which I find very sad. Times change – is good or bad, I am not the one to tell it. 🙂

      Have a wonderful day!
