Very interesting snow sculpture photos from Kemi, Matti. We have woken to heavy overnight snowfalls here.

Hello Marion.
Thank You. Kemi is part of “golden” triangle of three towns – Oulu, Kemi and Rovaniemi (Arctic Circle). All these are easy to reach from Helsinki and from each other’s. In out TV1, they have shown how the polar cold has reached Europe. This Morning we had -19℃ and last week when we visited Kemi, the thermometer showed in our car -25.5℃. Inside the castle, there was pleasant weather. 🙂
Have a good day!
Comment by Sartenada — February 27, 2018 @ 11:30 |
I would like to visit the golden triangle of those three towns one day. I have visited Saariselkä twice at Easter and enjoyed it very much. Keep warm and have a good week!
Comment by Little Miss Traveller — February 27, 2018 @ 11:35 |
Very nice Marion that You have visited Saariselkä. In summer, Saariselkä is worth for a visit. If You have time, then look at these two posts:
Saariselkä, Finland. Part 1
Saariselkä, Finland. Part 2
Surely different from winter. 🙂 Matti

So clever. How long do the sculptures last?
Comment by the eternal traveller — February 27, 2018 @ 10:54 |
Hello Carol.
Thank You commenting. In this case, I cannot say it, but generally speaking, I can say. If the young generation do not destroy them, they last many weeks until the power of sun starts to melt them. At these days, the sun warms about +10 degrees. This means that if there is outside temperature of -20℃, then sun warms it to -10℃. Another case is the temperature of our glazed balcony. Just now the temperature of outside is -26℃, but on our balcony the thermometer shows +16℃. Think about it!
Have a wonderful day!

Your sunny balcony sounds like the place to be, Matti!

These are fun. This year we had a little bit of snow, which is a bit of a novelty, but our snowmen were still much smaller.

Hello Terry.
Thank You for Your kind words. Kemi is small town, which “lives” only in winter. When we visited Snow castle, there were now many visitors from China. It seems that they have found Kemi. Local people have learnt to serve them in their language in a pizzeria where we ate. It seems that times are changing.
Have a good day!

Comment by ladyfromhamburg — February 27, 2018 @ 20:30 |
Hello Michèle.
Thank You leaving Your praising comment. We really enjoyed our walk in Kemi, which is small town and it seems living only in winter. We have not visited it in summer, although it is by the sea. Maybe some summer. When driving to the north on the way to Lapland, it is easy to bypass it driving “fast” on a motorway. The shortest route from Helsinki to Lapland passes via Oulu.
Have a good day. Matti

Hello Curt.
I guess that the international ice-carving contest in Fairbanks, Alaska, must have been gorgeous. In my country, we do not have such contests, but we have made of course some ice carvings. Maybe this post shows You something new:
World’s tallest ice Cathedral (Sagrada Família in ice)
If You have visited Barcelona, then You can compare this one with the original.
Happy weekend!

Hello Curt.
Thank You commenting. Our Lapland is our “Alaska”, because it is in the north, it has Arctic Hills, but no mountains, Lapland is our favorite place for a visit. We read huge amount of books. This happens just before going to sleep.

Lapland certainly qualifies from everything I have ever read or seen! Finland, Norway and Sweden are on my bucket list. Considering that Finland has one of the highest literacy rates in the world, it isn’t surprising that lots of reading gets done. –Curt
