Rapids of Imatra / Rapidos de Imatra / Cascadas d’Imatra

It was in 2006 when we spent a “mini vacation” in the small town of Imatra which is in eastern Finland.To reach it from Helsinki by car it takes four hours. Our main target was to admire foams of rapids of Imatra. It was Midsummer Day and previous winter was very scanty with snow and also the summer was very dry. Due to these two things the rapid of Imatra was opened only for one hour daily.

When it was time to open the locks, there was played “Maamme”, our national hymn composed by Fredrik Pacius . Some people sung it and the moment was very solemn. At first it seemed that the flowing water never was filling the dry riverbed.

So, first day we looked aloft this “show” and next day down below. This can be seen from my photos starting from the photo number ten. Last two photos of my set are showing the historical hotel nearby the rapids. The hotel is very beautiful. It was built in 1903 and actually it was a jugend style castle. Original name of this hotel was “Grand Hôtel Cascade”.

Fue en 2006 cuando pasamos nuestras vacaciones mini en el pueblo de Imatra que está al este parte de Finland. Para llegar allá en carro se tarda unas cuatro horas. Nuestro objetivo principal fue para admirar las espumas de los rápidos de Imatra. Era el Día de San Juan y el invierno anterior fue muy escaso de nieve y también el verano fue muy seco. Debido a estas dos cosas Rapidos de Imatra se abrió solo por una hora diaria.

Cuando llegó el momento para abrir las cerraduras, había jugado el Himno nacional” Maamme “compuesto por Fredrik Pacius . Algunas personas lo cantaban y el momento fue muy solemne. Al principio parecía que nunca el agua que fluye va a llenar el cauce del río.

Así, el primer día miramos de la parte alte a este “show” y al día siguiente de abajo. Esto se puede ver en mis fotos a partir de la número diez de mis fotos. Dos últimas fotos están mostrando el hotel histórico, cerca de los rápidos. El hotel es muy bonito. Fue construido en 1903 y en realidad se trataba de un castillo de arte modermismo. El nombre original de este hotel fue “Gran Hotel Cascada”.

C’était en 2006 quand nous avons passé une mini-vacances “dans la petite ville d’Imatra qui est dans la partie orientale de la Finland. Pour y arrive en voiture il faut environs quatre heures. Notre objectif principal était d’admirer les mousses de cascadas d’Imatra. C’était Fête de la Saint-Jean et l’hiver précédent a été très maigre avec de la neige et l’été aussi très sec. En raison de ces deux choses les cascadas d’Imatra a été ouverte seulement pour une heure par jour.

Quand il était temps d’ouvrir les écluses, il a été joué Maamme (l’hymne national) composé par Fredrik Pacius . Elle a été chanté par certaines personnes et le moment était très solennelle. Au début, il semblait que l’eau qui coule a jamais eu de remplissage du lit de rivière asséché.

Ainsi, le premier jour nous avons regardé de haut á ce “show” et le lendemain de dessous. Cela peut être vu dans mes photos à partir de la photo numéro dix.Les dernière deux photos de mon appareil montrent l’hôtel historique, à proximité des rapides. L’hôtel est très beau. Il a été construit en 1903 et en fait c’était un château de style Jugend. Nom original de cet hôtel a été “Grand Hôtel Cascade”, oui en français vraiment.

How interesting it is to see the dry river bed and then the water flow as it fills it and cascades down! What an impressive sight! The rapids then are very beautiful, and so is the hotel! What a perfect name for it!

Wow! That is a majestic dam and must be a sight to see. Awesome to see it flow over the dry river bed. Lovely hotel… I just love the architecture! Beautiful photos!

  Thank You. About hotel. Because there are towers in that hotel, then the suites are round in them. Two storey round suites are very popular among wedding couples. The hotel is next to the rapids and that means great view. We were not lucky when lived there, because that old part of hotel was fully booked already half an year before we stayed there. Thus we stayed in the newer part of hotel. Anyway it was nice short vacation.

All pictures are fantastic. The first three pictures are a nice introduction to this series. Until then, everything seemed very quiet, dry and rocky. From the fourth picture you can see the force of water pressure in the fifth fantastic image is expressed. In the pictures 6-9 is distributed by the strength and finds the endless journey into the wild. In Figures 11 and 12 I like the way the sunlight on the water, the riparian trees and slides. It’s a fantastic sight. In the images 18 and 19, I would be interested in the importance of the pavilion and the inscription on the rock. I think that for all persons who were present, was an interesting experience. In the images 29 and 30 of the river has still very much alive and powerful. Especially the white crests of the waves are excellent for expression. The hotel is also very impressive. Especially the round towers like it very much. Finally, I would like to compliment you. Your entire blog is very well designed, interesting and informative. I would like to give you many, many stars** I am grateful for it that I could visit this page again and look forward to my next trip in this blog.   Thank You commenting. That inscription belongs to the Swedish Royal Family. Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and his wife Queen Silvia visited there on 24th August 1988. I like too very much pictures 29 and 30.

Tri-lingual. Very impressive. I like the photos. We have a big dam or two in this neck of the woods and people like to visit. I like the writing about the music and that some people sang. It sounds very memorable.

First of all, writing all the details in more than one language is quite a nice touch! Thanks for that! I’m going to have to guess that the dam is opened on a set schedule, which allowed you to get before, during and after shots. (I like the photo of the person on the zip line with the raging dam in the background!) Those rapids are really something! Nice pictures!
