When driving my car around my country, I had sometimes to break my car and to stop to take photos. Here are some of those things which stopped me. Need the name of photo? Well, just move mouse pointer over the photo and then You have it with number. Photos from 2 to 10 show the forgotten memorial of the bear hunter Sipo, who killed a bear with his spear.

Travels in Finland and abroad 
The wooden art is fantastic, but tell me, the bear hunter in Sipoo, is it fairly recent or why have I never seen it? (I admit, I left Finland in 1977)

Oh, I’m glad you had to stop your car and take these shots! It seems that there is quite a tradition of creating BIG wood carvings in Finland. And so many sculptors don’t stop with just one – they create a whole family, like the panda bears. I can’t wait to see what else you’ve found on the side of the road.

It is true that we love wooden carvings and they are to been seen here and there. Also in my future posts consisting of sceneries from beyond the Arctic Circle, there are carved animals. Those posts will be in the beginning of next year. Next week I’ll start series of posts showing Helsinki as I see / saw it.

Finland seems to be full of art. I love the first set of the bear hunter. I often stop and take photos when I am driving around seeing my patients. I don’t come across a lot of art, though.

I am happy that You like them. When driving and looking carefully the traffic, then these kinds of findings are sometimes difficult to be noticed. Another thing is that when bypassing them, will I return or not. Now in many cases I returned to take photos.

It’s amazing and interesting, what you discovered again. The aliens in the first photo is a good introduction to this series. The bear hunters Sipoo is unknown to me. I think about it, an interesting story was written. In the photos of the bear hunter I see some little drops of water hanging on plants and grasses. A beautiful addition to these photos. The beaver in the colorful vest looks original and I like it very well. It’s nice that you show us the kind of photos Bonk their new vehicles. It will be fun to drive. I hope you understand this little joke. The women’s group is also an admirable art motif. In photo 6, Rantsila wood art, I discovered a windmill in the background. It is a pity that we only see partially. The large white snowman is not to be overlooked. A well-chosen parking spot for your fast car. Among my favorites: the scarecrow in the photos Rajamaki 1 to 8, the blue angel on the
totem pole. The snow is for the blue angel a beautiful backdrop. In the last photos 1 to 5, I like the fat women. They encourage eating to much or to be slim. After such a busy photo day you should rest. Therefore, the last photo, also my favorite. Well I have news for you. In my hometown, I discovered a few days ago a patchwork and quilting room. I read the lettering on the house. Although I often walked past this house I have never noticed it. More in an e-mail in the next few days. I thank you for allowing me to participate in this series again, and look forward to the next. I wish you and Anja, all the best and health to your common everyday ways. So nice that You found Bonk art among my collection. Those art pieces in Rajamäki are situated very near to my house. They gorgeous in live here. Those fat women I found before one bakery / pastry shop in Kerimäki where the biggest wooden church in the world is situated.

Thank you so much for your information, Matti. “The Women of Ruokolahti” is an amazing and beautiful painting of the Réalisme style. I had much pleasure learning more of Albert Edeltelt and looked at some of this works : I loved “Les jardins du Luxembourg”, he really sensed and represented the atmosphere of that period and moment. “Under the Birches” has an impressionist feel about it. I am grateful that you shared more about Finnish painting. Une belle journée à toi aussi.

Thank You. You made a good question when You asked: “WHO creates all these works of art?” People just do them. Maybe our people are talented or not, but many want to show all that they can create and especially from wood. Carved bear are most popular in Finland; Finnish people love wooden bears. You’ll see plenty of them in my series of photos which I’ll star in the beginning of next year showing pictures from our holiday “Beyond the Arctic Circle”. I have now made calculations that my series might last four months. There is so much to be presented.
Last summer I was really lucky to find these things when driving around in my country. To find them one has to leave big roads and to drive on “village roads”.
