In English:

Made on courses

These things have been made on courses by ordinary people. Our winter is long and dark. All of the people do not want to look at their television all the time, but they want to learn new things on many courses because people are not lazy. Therefore, they go on some adult education colleges once a week during autumn, winter and spring. When all the different types of courses finish, then there is an exhibition in April.

  3. I think Finnish people are very creative and it’s so good to see that they spend some of their time learning new skills and perfecting their talents. My mother used to crochet, tat and do bobbin lace making and I still have her bobbins tucked away in a drawer but am clueless as to how to use them! Thank you for showing us this marvellous collection by such talented people. Have a good week Matti, Marion.

            • Hi Emily.

It was, of course, still unfinished, but looked lovely and well-made. My wife took measurements for curtains, I filmed, shot a video and tested the speed of Internet connections with my phone. Both were quite good DNA and Elisa, But Elisa won. Views from the kitchen, bedrooms, living room were enjoyable and especially from the balcony. I guess that we will enjoy our life there. Matti

              P.S. still 144 days remaining. 🙂

  17. Hello Matti, I’m always enthusiastic about the results at the end of a winter seminar. The participants of all these courses are so talented. The objects they produce are all a perfect work of art! All these wonderful ideas and the original design, the way how they create and construct – it’s simply stunning! On one hand they are inventive themselves on the other hand they sometimes manufacture nearly ordinary things but use rather inventive material (for example for the bags). Thanks for showing such beautiful things! I had to scroll up and down again to have a second, third and fourth look ..

Warm regards and have a nice end of the week!

    • Hello Michèle.

To me it is always a great joy to present these crafts. Many items presented in this post, may give ideas to the people living elsewhere, I do hope it. My wife was interested in those wire works and now she said that why nobody presented then, at a time when we had our detached house on the country side. She used to use chain-link fence here and there. Thank You commenting so nicely and to remind me that I have not yet presented Anja’s flowers. I promise to better my habit during the summer.

      Happy weekend You also,

Possibly other attractions such as video games, I don’t know. But such a great post, and admire so much the craftmanship found in Finland! 🙂

    Comment by Canuck Carl — May 10, 2019 @ 17:13 | Reply

    • Hello Carl.

You are right. When travelling, on buses, trams, metro and trains, everyone stars at their phones. Games are popular here also. Even on streets young ladies stare all the time at mobile phone while pushing prams or strollers. When checking bucket-lists there are few posts in which people say that they want to learn to craft or new languages. It seems that the world around us has started to change or has done it already.

My hat to these people who has made these beautiful things! Thank You commenting.

            • My country is quite unknown. I have tried to present all of my country, because I have been nearly everywhere. I publish a new post every second week and it happens normally on Tuesdays. I have made many posts presenting Helsinki, but next week I will show Helsinki which is unknown to many visitors. It is called “Unknown Helsinki”.

It is intended to those who are not interested in to walk on asphalt roads and to visit standard tourist traps, but to those who have “adventurous” mind.

    • Hello Karen.

I am glad that You loved my post and its photos. I live in Finland where the tradition of handicrafts is old. Lace is and have been popular in Finland. Maybe You would love to see these gorgeous laces:

      They are incredible!

      Have a wonderful day!

P.S. Did You know that once in every summer we have Lace Week Festival? Traditions live. 🙂

  30. Magnificent! Thank you for showing us this exhibit in Suomi. It’s so much more productive to create rather than being lazy watching TV. I am amazed at the creativity and talent of people! Human beings are the only ones of God’s creation that make art like this! We also have courses for various artistic activities here in Canada. Quilt-making is very popular in our area. The centre where I teach dance has an ongoing quilting bee and the ladies make beautiful quilts. We have an annual sale by the Mennonites who sell their beautiful quilts to raise money to help people in need around the world. You can see here … https://nhmrs.com

Wow, how amazing praising comment. You made my day on this sunny Saturday morning! People make quilts here and we have exhibits, but normally they are not for sale, I have made 15 quilt posts. Here is the latest:

  32. bonjour, Matti, je n’avais pas pris le temps d’écrire un petit commentaire mais je voulais te dire que j’adore ce qui est fabriqué pendant vos cours! et te dire aussi qu’en français on dit: ‘pendant’ les cours (ou bien ‘lors’ des cours) plutôt que ‘sur’ les cours 🙂
les participants aux cours ont beaucoup de talents et ça produit de belles expositions! bravo aux finlandais 🙂
