  10. What a splendid place! Some of the flowers I recognized, while others were unfamiliar, but all are beautiful. The garden itself is nicely laid out — and I always smile when I see that a group has been wise enough to provide a few benches for those who need a moment of rest!

    Comment by shoreacres — June 23, 2020 @ 14:25 | Reply

    • Hello Linda.

Thank you praising this northern garden. You made one observation, which made me glad – benches! In Germany in particular, department stores take care of benches when ladies fit clothes. Many times, I get a smile as we are waiting on the benches / chairs when the ladies fit the clothes. 🙂 I appreciate this very much, because fitting can take long times.

      Have a wonderful day!

  33. Rather beautiful! It’s always amazing to see which plants and flowers are growing and blossoming although Oulu is situated already quite close to the arctic circle. (I know it’s still a distance of 300, or even 400 kilometers if you take the roads – but it’s rather northward).
I discovered a pyramid-shaped building on one of your photographs, Matti. Our botanical garden in Hamburg has a similar one – used for a small exhibition about desertification. Yours seems to be larger – is it used as a greenhouse?

Thanks for showing your impressions of the colourful botanical garden and have a nice start in the new month of July! – Michèle

    Comment by ladyfromhamburg — June 30, 2020 @ 22:55 | Reply

    • Hello Michèle.

! am glad that you are back! Thank you leaving your kind comment and loving my photos. The distance to the Arctic Circle is 213 km and driving time about 2 hours 50 minutes. Road is in a quite good condition.

Well, I checked the meaning of pyramids (greenhouses) and did find this: The useful plants are found in greenhouses and are divided into groups by purpose: Exotic fruits, Fiber crops, Medicinal plants, Spices, Nutrient and stimulant plants and Fragrance and dye plants. According to this list, it seems that worth for a visit. We are “early birds” and due to it, when we visited the garden too early – closed.

      Happy July you also,
      Matti

      Comment by Sartenada — July 1, 2020 @ 06:52 | Reply

      • Thanks a lot for looking for this further information about the pyramids! Very interesting! Despite of the longer journey, are you planning to visit Oulu again some time or perhaps visting once more the botanical garden of the university of this town – including the pyramids?

        Comment by ladyfromhamburg — July 2, 2020 @ 21:56 | Reply

        • Moin Michèle.

Thank you asking our plans. Sorry, but we do not have plans to visit Oulu, but next week’s Friday we will make a road trip to Lapland. We have rented a summer cabin there for a week. It is the second time, when we rented a summer cabin. Its distance is from our home about 760 km and we will drive there in a day. Our roads are not as fast as your “Autobahnen”, but we will manage it, because we will change drivers couple of time. One week there and then few nights in hotels on the return. It is nice summer cabin according due to the Internet. Here is some info with photos:

          Summer cottage

If you are interested to see our summer cabin from 2010:

          Hired vacation cottage

I always become sad, when reading comments of the young German Lady, who died. Why this happens to us, is big mystery, I always wonder. Maybe you noticed, that I have made on post from Germany and this summer later, there will another more.

          All the best,
          Matti

Merci pour ce joli compliment. Les fleurs sont bonnes pour l’âme et elles nous donnent du bonheur!

Bises et bon début de semaine.

  37. Hi Matti,
I’m back! I LOVE how clearly you manage to take your flower close-ups!
Do you have any idea what the flower is called ?(3rd photo from the top?)
One of my other favourite photos is the one of the black bird with the orange beak and matching orange eye liner.
The sculpture and street art is fabulous, great photos! Thanks 🙂

    MORE beautiful flower photographs!
My favourite is the one with purple spiky daisy sort of flowers, fabulous! 🙂

    • Hello.

Sorry for late comment. We just returned home from “reindeer road trip” to Lapland. This means that we made a road trip and met plenty of reindeers! It seems to be possible to offer four posts where reindeers everywhere; on the hired summer cottage and on the middle of roads. Of course, there will be many other local northern sights in my posts. Tomorrow I will present Berlin. Then within two weeks I have organized my photos and can publish first reindeer road trip. Thank you commenting.

      Have a good day!
