Some years ago, we made an organized tour to Sorrento, Italy. Why Sorrento? We knew that it was a beautiful small town. In 2016 its population was about 16609 inhabitants. Sorrento offered a nice way to make short excursions on one’s own to the nearby places like Capri, Vesuvius and Pompeii. We also visited Naples, but I did not shoot many photos from there and that is why I am not going to post any posts from there.

Although it has passed many years since our visit, it is still in our memory. Capri is an island, where You could visit once in the life time. Same words are valid also for Vesuvius and Pompeii. I could visit Pompeii once more, because I love history and it was full of awesome history.

Welcome to walk with us thru my photos in these three places!

Pompeii

This time I show photos of Pompeii. To reach Pompeii, we took a package to Pompeii. Making a guided tour is must when going a place like this. I think that nearly everybody has heard about Pompeii and its history. Pompeii was destructed 79 AD by eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Think the whole town, people, animals, nature. When passing thru its streets and visiting homes, I noticed one difference with our life style. People of Pompeii loved art as we nowadays also, but their walls were painted with art, not paintings on the walls.

Without these painting, we would have had very little information about the lives of the residents of Pompeii. Now we know, that they loved for example different sport, hunting, they had dogs and horses. Also, paintings reveal us that they were human beings who had same desires and we have today. Well, no more talks, but I let my photos to talk on behalf of me.

Alguns anos atrás, hicimos un viaje organizado a Sorrento, Italia. ¿Por qué Sorrento? Sabíamos que era una ciudad pequeña y hermosa. En 2016 su población ascendía a 16609 habitantes. Sorrento ofreció una buena manera de hacer excursiones cortas sin ayuda de nadie a lugares cercanos como Capri, Vesubio y Pompeya. También visitamos Nápoles, pero no tomé muchas fotos desde allí y es por eso que no publicaré ninguna publicación desde allí.

Aunque ha pasado muchos años desde nuestra visita, todavía está en nuestra memoria. Capri es una isla, donde se puede visitar una vez en la vida. Las mismas palabras son válidas también para el Vesubio y Pompeya. Pude visitar Pompeya una vez más, porque me encanta la historia y estaba llena de una historia increíble.

Pompeya

Esta vez les muestro fotos de Pompeya. Para llegar a Pompeya, llevamos un paquete a Pompeya. Para tomar una visita guiada es imprescindible para ir a un lugar como este. Creo que casi todo el mundo ha oído hablar de Pompeya y su historia. Pompeya fue destruido el 79 dC por la erupción del monte Vesubio. Piensa todo el pueblo, gente, animales, naturaleza. Al pasar por sus calles y visitar a los hogares, noté una diferencia con nuestro estilo de vida. La gente de Pompeya amaba el arte como nosotros hoy en día, pero sus paredes fueron pintadas con arte, no pinturas en las paredes.

Sin estas pinturas, hubiéramos tenido muy poca información sobre las vidas de los residentes de Pompeya. Ahora sabemos, que amaban, por ejemplo, diferentes deportes, la caza, tenían perros y caballos. Además, las pinturas nos revelan que eran seres humanos que tenían los mismos deseos lo que tenemos hoy. Bueno, no más charlas, pero dejé que mis fotos hablaran en mi nombre.

Il y a quelques années, quand nous avons fait une tournée organisée à Sorrente, en Italie. Pourquoi Sorrente? Nous savions que c’était une belle petite ville. En 2016, sa population était d’environ 16609 habitants. Sorrente offrait un moyen agréable de faire de courtes excursions de sa propre iniative dans des endroits proches comme Capri, le Vésuve et Pompéi. Nous avons également visité Naples, mais je n’ai pas pris beaucoup de photos à partir de là et c’est pourquoi je ne vais pas publier de messages à partir de là.

Bien que plusieurs années se soient écoulées depuis notre visite, elles sont toujours dans notre mémoire. Capri est une île, où vous pourriez visiter une fois dans la vie. Les mêmes mots valent aussi pour le Vésuve et Pompéi. Je pourrais visiter Pompéi une fois de plus, parce que j’aime l’histoire et il était pleine d’histoire impressionnante.

Pompéi

Cette fois, je vous montre des photos de Pompéi. Pour atteindre Pompéi, nous avons pris un voyage organisé à Pompéi. Prenant une visite guidée est indispensable lorsque vous réaliserez un tour dans un endroit comme celui-ci. Je pense que presque tout le monde a entendu parler de Pompéi et de son histoire. Pompéi a été détruit 79 après JC par l’éruption du mont Vésuve. Pensez à cela, la ville entière, toute la population, tous les animaux et la nature – totalement détruits. En traversant ses rues et en visitant des maisons, j’ai remarqué une différence dans notre style de vie. Les habitants de Pompéi aimaient l’art comme nous aussi aujourd’hui, mais leurs murs étaient peints avec de l’art, non seulement des peinturessur les murs.

Sans ces peintures, nous aurions très peu d’informations sur la vie des habitants de Pompéi. Nous savons maintenant qu’ils aimaient par exemple différents sports, la chasse, qu’ils avaient des chiens et des chevaux. En outre, les peintures nous révèlent qu’il s’agissait d’êtres humains partageant les mêmes désirs que nous avons aujourd’hui. Eh bien, plus de discussions, mais je laisse mes photos parler en mon nom.

Embora após muitos anos desde a nossa visita, ainda fica na nossa memória. Capri é uma ilha, onde você pode visitar uma vez na vida. As mesmas palavras são válidas também para o Vesúvio e Pompeia. Eu poderia visitar a Pompéia mais uma vez, porque eu amo a história e ela foi cheio de uma história incrível.

Desta vez mostro a você as fotos de Pompéia. Para chegar a Pompeia, pegamos um pacote de viagem para Pompéia. Para fazer uma visita guiada é imperativo ir a um lugar como este. Eu acho que quase todo mundo já ouviu falar de Pompéia e sua história. Pompéia foi destruída em 79 a.C.pela erupção do Monte Vesúvio. Pense sobre isso, a cidade inteira, as pessoas, os animais, a natureza. Quando passei por suas ruas e visitei em casas, notei uma diferença com o nosso estilo de vida. As pessoas de Pompéia amavam a arte como fazemos hoje, mas todas suas paredes eram pintadas com arte, não só pinturas nas paredes.

Sem essas pinturas, teríamos muito pouca informação sobre a vida dos moradores de Pompéia. Agora sabemos que eles amavam, por exemplo, esportes diferentes, caça, cães e cavalos. Além disso, as pinturas revelam que eram seres humanos que tinham os mesmos desejos que temos hoje. Bem, não mais palestras, mas deixei as minhas fotos falarem em meu nome.

We have also visited Pompeii. I agree, this is a place I would readily visit again. We split our day into two. We took a guided tour and then we explored on our own. I would agree that this is a place worth paying for a tour. Lovely photos.

You have some fabulous images of Pompeii, Sartenada, including many that I have never seen. My overwhelming impression of my visit there was heat and scale, and it was only May. What happened there and the ‘bodies’ really distress me and I was not sorry to leave, amazing though the site is. 🙂 🙂

Seeing of some remains of human and dogs, was heartbreaking indeed. They stop people to think about the meaning of our life and its smallness in the universe.

Estoy absolutamente emocionada y extasiada con el gran reportaje que has hecho sobre Pompeya. Tus fotos son magníficas y doy fe de que has reflejado muy bien lo que es y ha sido esta ciudad. Yo estuve hace unos años en el mes de junio, hacía muchísimo calor y había mucha gente, terminé el día agotada pero con una sensación mágica, increíble de todo aquello que estaba viendo.

A few years ago we went to an exhibition about the people of Pompeii at the British Museum. It was fascinating and one day I hope to visit Pompeii itself. Great photos.

Very impressive! Even today it offers real deep insights in Roman life! Thanks to the fact that Pompeii was kind of preserved under the ash it presents this variety of relics …. Stunning! However, I could imagine that walking through and discovering might be rather demanding or even exhausting. A lot of tourists, hot days and direct sunshine but only a few places that offer some shadow …

Wow, thank you for sharing this. Love all the photos. My husband and I tried to go to Pompeii many years ago but the bus never came to our hotel to pick us up. We were very young back then, in our 20’s and were staying in the island Ischia which is a little farther then Capri. We bought a package to see Pompeii but the tour bus just forgot us so we never got a chance, we got a refund the next day. I am always interested in history and my trips to visit family in Italy were filled with so much history. The churches are amazing over there. Thanks again for taking us along through your photos, great photos too.
