  12. Interesting.
Toronto has the annual Carribbana festival in August. It is organized by the black Carribbean community groups….It attracts black Americans from the northeast areas. it’s a s different vibe..if you have ever been to social events with blacks from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, etc. The city has the largest black community in Canada. So a place to really shake your bum..I think it’s an art. Which starts from childhood..

    Comment by Jean — June 19, 2018 @ 13:49 | Reply

    • Hello Jean.

Thank You. I have been in Toronto three times, but not then when Caribbana festival happened. I have also seen El Carnaval de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. My intention was, when shooting photos, present dancers and their headdresses, not to present dancers and their shaking bums! Of course, there were these, which You can see in my posts from 2009. I am proud that my daughter participated in this fest.

      Happy Midsummer Eve.

  30. Hello Matti, I am so pleased to have a look at this year’s Samba Carnaval! What a joyfull summer happening in Helsinki. Do I remember correctly that this is a competition of the Samba schools? I always admire the colourful costumes and beautiful dancers! I enjoyed very much having the possibility to see your daughter who was participating in this event! She looks wonderful! Could you easily spot her among all the other groups of dancers? I guess, as a proud and loving dad you probably had no difficulties to find her. ^^ But it must have been rather difficult for her to find YOU and Anja among the crowd! 🙂

Thanks for showing your great pictures und congratulations to your lovely golden daughter Inca with the black flag.
Have a nice start of the (official) summer season!

    Comment by ladyfromhamburg — June 21, 2018 @ 18:29 | Reply

    • Hello Michèle.

Yes, there are many Samba schools in Finland. For example: Samba Carioca (Turku), Samba el Gambo (Kokkola), Força Natural and Samba Maracanã (Lahti), Samba Tropical (Seinäjoki), União da Roseira (Tampere), Sambic, which is union of supporters (in different towns) and the biggest one Império do Papagaio (Helsinki). My daughter is the member of Império do Papagaio.

For it was not easy to find her, because everyone had a heavy Samba mask and make up. If we did not have met her before the Carnaval, then impossible. She did not see us, although we told her where we will stand.

Thank You for Your praising comment.

      Happy Midsummer. Matti

    • Hello Bespoke Traveler.

Thank You for Your praising comment. My daughter said that the most difficult thing was to sing during two hours. When the song ended, then immediately to start again the same song.

      Have a good day!

  41. Hello Matti, sorry for my late comment. What wonderful photos of the samba festival! It looks like there was a theme with the costumes this year. Your daughter looks like she was having a great time! Thank you for sharing.

    • Hello Emily.

It is okay. The most important to me was that You saw my daughter’s photos. Earlier I have shown her when participating in the Marathon of Thousand Lakes and in one of my horse riding post Competition failed. She is “hard” business Lady, who has worked for years in companies like Nokia and Microsoft. 🙂

All the best to You and Your Yours.

        • Hello Emily.

Thank You. Many years ago, she worked three months in Santiago de Chile as a trainer of SAP (German multinational enterprise-software company) to the local employees of Outokumpu (metal industry company). I visited there two weeks with my Granddaughter. Guess if we had great time.

          Have a good day!
