Puumala’s marina/ Puerto deportivo de Puumala / Marina de Puumala

In English:

After Pistohiekka scenery road we arrived to Puumala. It is small place, but its marina is popular among boaters in summer. While eating our picnic lunch with coffee, we enjoyed looking at arriving and departing boats in the marina, After shooting photos from the high bridge, we walked around and finally before driving to our home, we visited the Puumala church.

I combined to this post also our short visit in Ristiina. There is nearly nothing to see in addition of its tiny marina. In Ristiina there are ruins of the castle of Brahelinna from 1630. Among Ristiina photos there is one photo showing the tugboat S/S Warkaus from 1910. It tugged log rafts between the town of Kuopio and the town of Varkaus. Transport of logs by water is much cheaper than by road or rail, yet today. Church and bell tower in Ristiina are beautiful. We could not visit the church inside, because it was closed.

  10. There are such pretty places where you live or walk around! I think the tug boat Warkaus appeared some time ago in one of your posts about a steam boat meeting. Looks nice! And I liked the castle Brahe or the left overs so to say. Very interesting!
Thanks for showing these special points as well as wooden statues, these small wooden houses/cottages and the marina.

    • Hello Michèle.

You are right and excellent memory when remembering the tugboat Warkaus from my old post. These small places are situated quite close to my hometown Mikkeli on the Lakeland area. Puumala is very popular among boaters in Finland.

Brahe castle or better its over were unknown to us and thus it was interesting to see them.

      Have a wonderful day!

    Comment by womanseyeview — November 24, 2015 @ 22:21 | Reply

    • Hi Carol.

Very nice comment. Thank You. I am glad that You noticed the church of Ristiina. Our church architecture on countryside differs from those churches situated on towns. On countryside, bell towers are separate from churches in many cases. Churches are wooden churches and in case of fire, the other can be saved. Fires during centuries has destroyed many churches in Finland. So man have learned.

      Have a wonderful day!
