Thank You. The area around Muonio is known Fell Lapland which means that man can make easy walks and more difficult hikes. This time it was just a walk. My photos showed Äkäslompolo / Ylläs nature paths.

      Have a nice day!

Thank You for Your comment. Because Wikipedia is not telling the bird’s name in Japanese, I give its Latin name: Perisoreus infaustus and English: Siberian Jay.

      Have a wonderful day!

This bird is a bird to Siberia?
Seems to be said in the SIBERIAN JAY Japan name ‘akaokakesu’.
Japan also named Jay bird. In the same family corvidae is a large bird.
And blue feathers on the back, is a beautiful bird.

        • Hello ❤ちえたん.

Thank You clarifying the name of this beautiful bird. In Finnish we call it “Kuukkeli” and to You it is easy to pronounce because our languages are very similar when pronounced. Kuukkeli loaves people and it is very curious to see what people are doing.

  10. I had no idea that the region north of the Arctic Circle was so beautiful. I was also surprised to see snow-making equipment — I guess I always assumed there was plenty of snow during winter. The wooden carvings are amazing. Thanks for sharing your journey with us through your beautiful photos.

    Comment by seniorhiker — February 7, 2014 @ 17:10 | Reply

    • Hi George.

Thank You. Yes there is plenty of snow in winter, it is sure, but the people have hobbies like slalom and snowboarding want to go to slopes earlier and earlier before the winter comes. The same is also in spring the season is continued although snow is melting on slopes. The owners of ski resorts of course respond to the hobbyists wishes by using snow canons. Money talks. I am glad that You follow our journey on Finnish Lapland thru my photos.

Even very near to Helsinki this makes possible to slalom before the real winter comes.

      Have a great weekend!

We are newbies. Our previous road trip was in 2011. Our trip started in August 30, 2013 and ended in September 08, in 2011. we guessed that it is in Lapland “ruska” at its best, but maybe it was next week. Maybe, if You have time, check also my previous posts starting from the post number one presenting this road trip.

    • Hi Janet.

Thank You. The weather in Lapland has great variety extremities. I found these from Internet: The coldest in Lapland has been Inari/Ivalo -48.6ºC / -55.5ºF February the 1st in 1966. The hottest in Lapland has been Utsjoki Kevo 32.8ºC / 91.0ºF June the 18th in 1974. Calculate the difference.

Snow canons serve enthusiasts to start the season before the real winter seasons and to continue after the seasons.

The weather in the whole Scandinavia is warmed by the Gulf Stream. It brings warm water from the Gulf of Mexico across the Atlantic Ocean continuing to the North. This simply means that the weather in the whole Scandinavia would be much colder without the warm Gulf Stream.

The weather in other parts of our world influence to the weather elsewhere. For example the cold Vortex above the Canada and the United States has pushed warm and humid air to Europe and thus there are floods in England as we have read. There are days in some summers when the Finnish Lapland has been hottest place in the Europe.

Well, I am not the best one to explain these things, but just to give some ideas.

Here is my old post to show Utsjoki and the Northernmost village Nuorgam in Finland:

      Utsjoki.

      Have a wonderful day!

Thus it was published. I noticed it immediately and I removed it to trash in about one minute. It seems that You saw it during this short time. I was irked to me myself that it happened. Well, You’ll see it later and until then there are many pleasant surprises. Thank You likening my “future, not published post”.

    • Hi Hayley.

Thank You. There are many skiing centers in Lapland. My favorite is called Saariselkä. It is situated North of the Arctic Circle at the distance of 263km / 163 miles. We visited it a couple of years and it charmed us. There are awesome wooden cottages for visors to spend nights and excellent trails for walking. Also prices were not in heaven. I made trilogy from Saariselkä, because it was worth for it. I show two of my posts here:

The first one shows mainly cottages.
      Saariselkä, Finland. Part 1.

The second shows landscapes what we saw while hiking.

I am glad that You found forests. Here in Finland we love to walk in forests in Finland. During summer there are plenty of different berries which are healthy to be picked up such as: blueberries, wild strawberries, lingonberries, cranberries and cloudberries can be found in bogs.

      Happy day!
