Sand Statues 2012 / Estatuas de arena 2012 / Statues de sable 2012

In English:

Every summer the town of Lappeenranta presents sand art. This summer I was “delayed” because I visited it in late summer in August. It means that some statues were partly damaged by heavy rain showers. I was slightly disappointed to the amount of statues. Last summer the area was bigger and thus more to see. Anyway, I tried my best to get photos from those statues which presented many of our historic persons.

  1. I used to build sand castles as a child and they survived a few hours only.
These Sand Statues are something else, really exciting. I hope they can last a long time.
Thank you Matti for another face of Finland.

    • Hello Clive and Adi.

Thank You for Your comment. They last one summer. This summer was an exception due to heavy rains. In my old post Sand Statues / Estatuas de arena / Statues de sable 2010 from Lappeenranta, I have explanation why they last all the summer.

I am glad that You did like my post.

I wish to You both a very happy day!

  3. The statues are so incredible! If I had the talent to create such a thing I just could not do it in a medium that exists for such a short time. I was especially struck by the statues in 44 through 53. Such beautiful work! Your photos showed the statues very well!

All the photos presenting the Queen of Sweden, Christina are my favorites too. Queen Christina founded the city of Lappeenranta, the place where these sand statues are. Thank You for Your comment.

  9. Hi !
I think you have a huge treasury that’s full of startling ideas that will never run out. One can never expect what your next destination will be . I really want to know much about you. Can I?

    • Hello Hussein Omar.

Thank You for Your kind words. Ideas I really have, that’s true. Well, my next “destination” will be world, so much I can say in advance, because I am presenting my collection of “things” dating back about forty years.

Due to my working history among local Airline company (Finnair), I did not have time to explore my own country. Now, when retired, I explore it and most interesting place, those I show here. My short car trips around in Finland have made my mind richer than earlier. I have met interesting people and great places.

To know more about my life, read my About me.

I am glad that You have followed my blog and hope that will not be disappointed in the future.

      Happy Saturday!

  10. I wondered if those artists work with some other (longer lasting) material as well, since they are obviously so talented. Beautiful sculptures, but unfortunately so temporary.
