I visited in 2011 in two quilt and patchwork exhibitions in Raisio and Nummela. Both of these places are small localities. At the end of this post there are 12 photos presenting quilted bags which we saw in Vaasa in 2012 in a nationwide exhibition.

So nice to read that You like my post. My wife used to quilt few years ago and that’s why we visit in these exhibitions. Now she is beading, but having interest in quilts. I love them and look at them as “art works”. Those bags are quilted bags made by ordinary people. I love them.

Hi Lora.
I am very happy that You like these. I know that quilting has long traditions in the States, but we are coming in “after train”. In Finland we have nation-wide organization called “Quilting Association Finn Quilt”. It was established in 1990 having about 1800 members. My wife is a member of it too. It is publishing a magazine for members four times in a year and its photos are amazing. I mean it, because when arrives to our mail box we “fight” who shall read it first. 🙂
I have for the future three posts from the annual meeting of Finn Quilt from March. Someday I’ll publish them one by one.

So kind and wise words thank You. To me, it is a little wonder, that so many in these two small places have so many quilters. In Raisio there are 24564 inhabitants and in Nummela about 12000. Small towns indeed. Vaasa (handbags) was part of nation-wide quilt show, so that is another story to be told sometimes later.

There are some lovely designs there, Matti. My favourite is the little book at images 14-16, the magnificent red and cream diamond quilt immediately below it, and the Viking longboats. Such a lot of work involved in all these quilts.

Beautiful.. I saw a quilt exhibition in USA and this reminds me of that, it’s interesting to see how quilt is presented differently but equally beautiful in different cultures.
